My food microbiology instructor let me take an incomplete for his class last semester due to extenuating circumstances. But, I'm worried about how that'll look on my application this year. I have about a 3.5 GPA and a 94 composite PCAT, so I know I'm competitive for most pharmacy schools.

I'm a senior with a little bit of senioritis mixed in with a little depression symptoms over the last year, so I hit a little slump. I had to retake a prerequisite accounting class over the summer, for which I got an A the second time. I'm worried about my chances for pharmacy school even with a decent GPA after my slump and a great PCAT.

Does anybody have any suggestions in dealing with an incomplete grade when talking admission committees? Will it break my application even with a decent interview? I recently was invited to an interview at Iowa, but I don't think they know about this incomplete grade yet.

Put yourself into an admissions officer's position, and ask yourself if your reason for getting an incomplete is understandable. If you think so, then so will they, if not...

Even still, an I is not really that bad, especially since you have solid grades and a great PCAT. It's just one class, and I know everyone wants to have great marks and perfect stripes, but we are human, too.

Keep on keeping on and I think you'll get where you're trying to go. 🙂

You have an incomplete currently but won't you have to complete the class in the upcoming semester? As soon as you complete the class and have the instructor send in the necessary change of grades forms to the registrar, won't your incomplete be replaced with a grade? I say get to work on turning that incomplete into a grade and you wont have to worry about any schools seeing that you have an incomplete!!

Best of luck!

I am completing my instructor's requirements. But due to the nature of the agreement, it will take some time. I hope to be done within a month or a month-and-a-half at the most, which is around the time that admission committees are making their final evaluations of me. That's why I'm worried as I'm not 100% sure that my grade will convert back to normal in time.

The incomlete is something that generally would have been addressed in your supplemental application or possibly touched upon during your interview if you've interviewed there already. If they are aware of the circumstances, the fact that you are completing the course, and your other courses look good, then I doubt they'll think twice about it. If your other courses (overall GPA) look less than satisfactory or the incomplete was never acknowledged in any previous communication, it could look bad. It all depends on what information they have about it in the end.

Ha, I had soo many W's and I got into 2 of the 4 schools to which I applied. You have nothing to worry about. Please remember, there's more to a student than what's on his transcripts.

What were your overall GPA, PCAT, pharmacy, and residency factors like? Where did you apply and where did you get accepted?
