I will make this brief as possible

Someone I do not trust at all (we used to be best friends but got into terrible fights with harsh words and now we hate each other and do not talk) texted me a picture of me from college smoking a pipe the size of a cigar usually reserved for marijuana to get under my skin (you cannot identify what is in the pipe but an educated guess would conclude that it is marijuana (i can always claim it was tobacco) but once again it is inconclusive IT IS NOT A BONG, IT IS A PIPE THE SIZE OF A CIGAR)

anyway, i am taking my mcats next month and am applying to medical school,
a few questions
1) if my former friend posts the picture of me smoking the pipe and tags my full name on facebook, instagram, linkedin, twitter, flickr, etc, would it hurt my chances of getting into medical school if admissions saw it when they google my name?

2) if i ever get into medical school and become a doctor, can i lose my medical license for ONE photo of me in my early 20s smoking something that someone might guess is marijuana (even though nobody could prove that it was marijuana with any certainty, in other words i can just say it is tobacco)

doubt ADCOM has time to google anyone's name or search for pix online. even schools requiring CBC are only worried about criminal convictions/arrest/investigations such as would hinder you from being licence after training you.
so far this is not an ongoing habit, relax

For the first one, it MIGHT hurt, but that would assume every school you apply to searches these databases, assumes that this person actually posts the pictures, assumes you don't untag yourself from them, and assumes they connect that picture to you.

For the second, no, a picture of smoking something that might or might not be an illegal substance will not make you lose your medical license.

but assuming i do get into medical school somewhere and become a doctor...
can i lose my medical license for ONE photo of me in my early 20s smoking something that someone might guess is marijuana (even though i can claim it is tobacco)? that is my real concern

thanks that does make me feel better 🙂 i dont think ONE bad photo will stop me from getting into med school, i have no criminal background never been arrested etc,
i just need to calm the **** down and realize doing well on my mcats and being calm in life is more important to a medical career than worrying about one photo

Post the pic here and we'll let you know

its hard to tell sarcasm over the internet but obviously i wont post the picture online, i showed the picture to my siblings who are doctors and my parents and they all made fun of me saying im worried about nothing, that photos dont prove anything, only arrest records do,
they said if i ever become a competent doctor that in the future nobody would truly care if this came up UNLESS a superior had it in for me which in any case he or she would find any excuse to hurt me

Just make your Facebook private or change your name. ADCOMs won't be able to find you

I definitely wouldn't worry about your second concern at all. I bet many doctors experimented with pot/drugs in their youth.

Should it even matter?

I bet most adcoms blazed up a ton during their college years

All it really means is that you've got a douche bag for an ex-friend.
Many successful professionals smoked things in their youth --

Don't put it on YOUR Facebook page, but don't worry about it otherwise.
