Hello,

I am a 3rd year student at Universit of Florida. Its time for us to pick rotations. Does anyone have any experience in the Indian Health Service Rotation in North Carolina? I would appreciate any feedback.

I completed an IHS rotation ('07) in New Mexico and really enjoyed it, nice mix of anticoagulation, diabetes, HTN, renal, mainly ambulatory care; my roomie was from UF. Another classmate did the IHS rotation in Cherokee, she liked it. She told me it was pretty remote and she had a ton of cell trouble, but liked the hospital. I know she did a combo of inpatient and ambulatory care. Asheville is fun town with lots of outdoor activities, some good bars, and a decent music scene. Hope that helps.

I did the rotation in cherokee and I thought it was awesome! Plus they give you housing while you are there. (just remember that it's government housing so its not going to be great)

You're going to wish you had government housing in near future..

I am goign to be doing one of my rotations at the Cherokee Indian Reservation, and I am wondering if anyone could tell me what housing is really going to be like?

If your a guy, expect to be in a 3 bedroom house with good ac/heat but no tv or internet. If your a girl, expect to be in a house with crappy heat with tv, cable and internet. It's a great rotation. Have fun!

Thank you for answering my question. I am really looking forward to this rotation, and now I am a little more at ease with the living situation.
