Indiana is established and a pretty good school but Midwestern is new and has potential. Any opinions?

You gotta give more details. Indiana you know what you're going to get, Midwestern you really don't.

I'm going to do the Military scholarship so cost doesn't matter to me...so I would pick Midwestern. I think finances should play a LARGE factor in determining the school choice. After that, I think location/fit/comfort are short 2nd's. Since I know very little of your situation/preferences, I couldn't pick one or the other.

One positive is that at Midwestern, even though you'll have to work through all the bumps, you will get all brand new equipment and new facilities. Never been to IU but new sounds good to me.

i would pick Indiana. Midwestern isnt that great.

Care to back that up? Sounds like you're hoping they pick Indiana to open up another spot at Midwestern to me...

Personally, I hope they pick Indiana for that reason, but I wouldn't deceptively lie to accomplish that. I've heard bad things about Problem Based Learning that Indiana implements. My friend's friend who goes to IU dental school says it's okay. He's not impressed nor unimpressed. The thing about MWU is that it's an unknown. But that appeals to me persoanlly. It's also expensive.

I'd personally choose Midwestern if the choice was mine for my situation, but if you got in-state at Indiana, then it's a no-brainer if you take out loans. There isn't that large of a discrepancy in dental education to warranted 2-3 times more debt IMO. Most of your education comes down to you during and after dental school.

You really gotta write down the pros/cons of each place and find the best fit for YOU. Asking others is a way to research, but ultimately it's your responsibility to choose your education and you're accountable for your choice.

as of right now
glendale, az.....63 degrees
indianapolis, in..33 degrees

I have no idea about Indiana, but here's what kind-of scares me about Midwestern:
1. Price
2. Facilities aren't even built yet
3. Curriculum is still being hammered out
4. Some classes will be joint, meaning you will be in the same class as PA students or whatever other students they have on their campus.
5. 6 months from now- Indiana 85 degrees, Glendale 115 degrees
6. Still not accredited unless I'm mistaken
7. First class is essentially the lab rat for the dental school

Reasons why I have heard it would be good to go to midwestern instead of Indiana on this post:
1. Good weather in the winter
2. New equipment
3. It is an unknown (apparently this is Smills91 #1 reason for wanting to go there?)

MWU is accredited. They have their provisional accreditation, and no school can be fully accredited until they graduate their first class. From what i got at the interview at MWU is that it will be a great school in coming years.

I don't doubt they won't be a great school in coming years (much like ASDOH has become), but what about THIS year?

thats what everyone is going to have to figure out. I think this year's class and so forth will be great with good education, but there are just gonna be bumps in the road (just because you have bumps in the road doesnt mean that the trip isnt great)

But if you have the opportunity to take a different trip.........

very tru, im just giving my perspective on MWU to try to help someone determine what trip to take. I have no visited or didnt interview at IU so i cant comment on it

I received acceptances from both IU & Midwestern, and I am choosing Midwestern.

While IU's program is more "established" , the established program they have currently didn't seem to be so popular with the students. When I talked with an IU D-4 student, he said most of his class hates the PBL (Problem Based Learning) in the curriculum. Also the building is old. The IU Dean himself during the interview noted that the building is too old, and is falling apart, and they can't do anything about it, since they don't have the funding.

Before I went on my interview for MWU, I too was a bit hesistant about MWU. But after I went on the interview, I feel confident I will receive a very good dental education there, with a very nice facility and equipment.

Where did I ever say that was my #1 reason. It's definitely intriguing to me in the sense that I can help shape and determine how the curriculum will be established for years down the road. I'm in the 2nd graduating class of my master's program and the first graduating class at my High School. I look back at my high school and am very proud of the traditions and things that I along with my classmates established there. I think that a similar sentiment will happen for me at MWU should I be fortunate enough to get accepted there.

Me, personally, I do not have a choice, because both schools rejected me. But if I had to choose, Ryan, (haha!) unless you're doing the military thing-----go to the cheaper school!!!!! Why pay an exorbitant amount of money( $57000 x 4 years) when Indiana is cheaper?
Personally, I don't give a damn about the schools, I just want to go, and if I have options, if I even get in, I am going to go to the cheaper school.
Bottom line. You're still a dentist either way.
