Indiana website application wants a personal statement at the end on why you want to attend a dental program, what qualifies you, etc.

Do we really have to write a new one or can we just submit the one from aadsas?

What did you guys do?

There's a separate app form for Indiana? Can you post the link? Thanks!

Ya, I was wondering the same thing. I emailed them about it, but I hasn't gotten a response. I don't really understand why they need information like the colleges we attended, DAT scores, GPA and our personal statement when it was all in our AADSAS application. Especially since they have more than likely looked at all of this already before giving us an interview. I don't mind listing it all again, I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.

I went ahead and wrote a new one over the weekend. I felt as though it was similar to the personal statement in AADSAS, but I went more into detail about specifics.

I don't see that on my application... may be because I'm international.

I just log on and double check my online application...but nothing asking about personal statement...

Me neither. However, I am permanent resident=international (according to application fee). Maybe you are right. Either way, I guess the most important is the application fee. :xf:

haha yeah I guess so 😛. So US citizens pay $50? bec. I payed $60 as an international application fee.

DATlongshui did you get a confirmation email from IU? I'm thinking I'll call them on Wednesday if I don't get an email from them tmrw.

Let me know what they say.

I know, its usually bad to re-use these kinds of things. But most secondaries just ask stuff from aadsas and you copy paste it from there. So I am thinking the same thing with the essay.

I emailed them and received a response, they said you could just fill out the starred items to get to the pay part. That is all they want from you at this point. I didn't add a personal statement because it didn't have a star by it. They have all your stuff, they just want the cash.

I called and they told me the same thing as Nat426. They said that there is no star next to it so there is no need to write a personal statement. The lady told me that if I wanted I could just use the same one I used for AADSAS but that it wasn't necessary. I just left it blank

Well isn't that just lovely. Glad I did all of that work. haha

hmm im international and so far have gotten nothing but "we've received your application" from indiana

My mail out date for Indiana was 7/9 🙂

I did get two emails right after I submitted my application/fee. One is "IU QuickPay" to confirm the payment, the other is "Application Submission Receipt" showing the application fee ($60) and a confirmation number. Are you talking about these two emails, or an email from dental school? I haven't received any notification from dental school.

longshui I was actually talking about confirmation email from dental school (confirmation of interview date).

I still didn't receive any email from Indiana... 15 days (they said everything has to be done in 15 days in order to keep one's interview) approacing quickly and I'm nervous now...:scared:

I mailed out the stuffs the admissions office asked (choose the date/proof of residency/prerequisite) on 7/30/10 via priority mail with delivery confirmation. I know the mail got to the office on 8/2/10 and I received an email from the office the second day to confirm my interview date. The office seems very efficient in terms of processing things.

I think you should definitely call the office. It could be a mailing issue, in which case you may just have to resend? BTW, I've emailed the office for one of my prerequisites several times, and the person was really nice and helpful, so just call them. They will help you.

sorry to ask this dumb question about the 2ndry application to Indiana:

Is this after submitting through ADDSAS ?
Do u receive email that asks you to fill it up ?

No. This is after getting an interview invitation. IU is really nice compared to a lot of other schools and doesn't make you do a secondary or pay a fee until after you get an interview invitation!

I think you only get it after you get an interview.

If you find the link and fill it out without getting an interview, then you are wasting money. I don't think Indiana sends it to everyone. So if you were not going to get an interview, but filled it out, you just wasted $50. The secondary only asks some basic info about you and asks for the application fee.

I have an interview scheduled with Indiana and was never told to fill out a secondary application...

So they have still not gotten back to me with the questions I sent them yesterday about the secondary...

You guys say we are only supposed to fill out the starred items but for me pretty much everything is starred...

Did you guys list all of the universities you have attended? What about the DAT section? I have retaken the DAT and I wasn't sure if I needed to list both scores or most recent. Again, no one has gotten back to me so I was wondering if any of you happened to know the answer. Thanks!!!

Maybe they only had certain people fill it out because I didn't get any kind of attachment or word document just an e-mail listing what was missing from my application.

Maybe they only have Indiana residents fill out the secondary because you have to show proof of residency.

I'm international but I still did fill out their secondary

FYI: there is no need to mail anything. You can simply email them the info they requested...they are extremely efficient and fast in processing.

Thank you very much Guys
I really appreciate the information. Best of luck to all of you who got an interview.

Maybe you should e-mail or call and check.
I am not an Indiana resident either.

The e-mail said if they don't receive your secondary and payment, they will cancel your interview.

I am a little confused as to whether or not I am filling out the correct graduate application to pay my fee. There is nothing asking me about anything specific to dentistry or the dental school (nothing for DAT or personal statement like some others mentioned). When I click on the link in my interview invite email, I then go to a page where I clicked on "Online Application" on the left side of the webpage. Is this the correct application? Dentistry is not listed in the dropdown menu for me so I am unsure as to whether this is right.
I appreciate someone helping me out!

nevermind, I answered my own question with a little more digging!🙂

I was also confused about this b/c I did not receive a word document either. I contacted my representative there and she told me I didn't have to worry about it. So I would contact whoever emailed you the interview notification.

Anyone know what we should put on the interview application when it asks for Dentistry MSD or Dentistry Professional? I would think Dentistry Professional but I'm confused on that one.

Dentistry Proffesional and then select DDS - Dental Surgery

I finally received a response to my questions from their office. You do not need to list all of your schools, DAT scores or personal statement. Anything that's already on file at their office(in your AADSAS app) they don't need to know.

thank god i read this thread...I had my blank word document, coffee, and thinking cap ready to create a new 500 word essay.
