Hello, I am actually a statistician. My big goal is to work for the pharmaceutical industry. However, for statistics, it is SO SO competitive beyond words. I am in the graduate program in North Carolina and there are so many people who have years of working experience before. In fact, my department NCSU had a career fair, and Glaxo told everyone to forget it unless they had five years of working expereince in a hospital, CRO, or pharm company, in addition to the PhD.
IN fact, I am considering maybe going into pharmacy after the masters at a good school (UNC-Chapel Hill or UF) and trying to go this route for Pharmacy, if I cannot find anything with the initial masters. A PhD might be too much time before getting a job to find out that it is impossible, but I would continue if I could find a related position. However, I think that in pharmacy, you either need a post-graduate fellowship or pursue a PhD in pharmaceutics after the PharmD if you seriously want to work for a pharm company. If you want to do marketing then do an MBA after the PHarmD. But I think the PHarmD alone is not enough.
