Hi,

I am an MSIV who is going to be completing an audition rotation for an IM residency with an Infectious disease attending who is also the IM program director for 4 weeks. I was wondering what are some things I should read before hand and what kind of expectations do ID attendings have of students?

Thanks

I don't think there is anything in particular you can do. ID physicians are not that uncommonly department chairs or PD's.

Just show up early, know your patients well, the usual stuff. In my experience, ID doc's tend to garner the teaching awards and are nice, so that makes working with them pleasurable.

If you are interested in doing ID, one thing that people generally do not do that well early on would be taking a really good social history/exposure history (assuming you have in ID case that you are working up).

The social history is much more than just 'Denies tob/alc/drugs." Especially if you are admitting someone you suspect has an infectious etiology of their complaint.
