hey everybody-
when i applied to ophtho programs, i based my choices mainly on geographical location, figuring i'd look more into specific program details once i got interviews. well, that time has now come, and i'm finding it exceedingly difficult to compare programs that are outside of the top tier. how are you all doing that? i think a ton of info will be learned at interviews, but when you have to decide between two places due to date conflicts for interviews, how are you deciding? i know i'm rambling.... any thoughts would be appreciated.

another question- we all know what the top programs are, does anyone have info on which programs are notoriously sub-par????

I'm having the same (good) problem, in that I need to figure out which programs are the best that I have been invited to. I have also applied based on geography mostly in the Southeast. I also applied to the chicago programs, but due to cost of living there, I am planning on canceling them first. I am basically going to make my rank list based on where I will be able to have the best quality of life and best training. I will probably not rank a program if I don't think I would be happy there even if it is a top 10 program.
As far as the bad programs, I just recently heard that UT-Chatanooga is on the rocks. I interviewed at the Medical College of Georgia on monday and I talked to a girl who just finished an out rotation there. Apparantly the just got approved for funding this year, but they may not in the future. It sounded sketchy to me, so take it for what it's worth. Good luck.
