Do you guys recommend any reference material/websites that provide basic information for retail pharmacy? Specifically, about OTC products and to answer questions when customers come in and ask about products to:

- help with pressure when flying on airplanes.
- runny nose, watery eyes, headache

Are there any websites or info that can help me to answer basic questions for the customers?

http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag...prescription handbook&sourceid=Mozilla-search

The Handbook of Nonprescription drugs

PDR OTC reference

Either book would be a good choice. Do they not have you buy Handbook on OTC drugs at your school?

OTC knowledge is something that you'll get very comfortable with at pharmacy school (at least you should). While your learning, observe your pharmacist and have them work with you to help patients.

It seems the OP isn't in a pharmacy program. Any pharmacy students won't ask questions like these; they are trained/taught/provided and have free access to the references.

If you have to use a website or a reference book to answer these types of question you have problems and should not be trying to answer them.

Read the boxes silly.

I think what the OP may have meant was: is there any websites/references that summarize all the common OTC tx for quick reference. I know we are all trained in depth in school about OTC but when it comes to real life work, we need to have ready in our mind some common products for common condition without having to stand there and think about it. For instance, if someone complains about an earwax problem, a pharmacist should instantly think of Debrox and not going "hmmmm let's see......". In a hectic retail environment, a bunch of those "hmmmmmm let's see....." moments can really kill the work flow and make your day a horrible. Of course, you still need to ask those "scanning questions" as taught by the APhA handbook to make sure the pt is not contraindicated to the tx or another product is better. However, like I said, we must always have some product ready in our mind so we can make a quick recommendation to the pt. Since I wasn't able to find such reference on the internet, I often make my own.
