As long as you taken all the pre-reqs and the MCAT you are fine. I spoke with Amanda Griffith about it not too long ago. I am also a non-science major.
The committee meets sometime after the deadline and the acceptances go out early April I believe. And it's not on a rolling basis (which would be nice).
would it be detrimental if the most recent scientific discovery i am interested in is about space? or should i find something medical?
you are accepted off of the waitlist when do you figure out? Early may? And are you alerted that you are on the waitlist?
if my ugpa and sgpa are <3.0.. mcat is 27.. what are the chances i would get in?
ive applied to all the urm based post baccs.. but there are so few spots i need more options..and im a tx resident..
@Mac13 Dude You have a 32 MCAT. Apply to MedSchool in Texas. Go ahead an apply to the MedSci program, there isn't a place for volunteer hours because they use the personal statment get a good feel for your personality. There is also a reason it is very similar to the TMDSAS statement, that way you have one written. Apply to TMDSAS, and submit before May is out. P.S. MedSci is taking 150 students next year. That's huge, and will be competitive. How competitive is this program? I have ~3.4gpa ~3.3sgpa (~3.9 in last 60 hours), and a 32 Mcat. I plan on applying to DO schools the same cycle, but I'd like to apply to this program as well in case I don't get any acceptances.
I saw the application on the website through the GSBS and I had some questions. I notice there isn't any place in the application to list ECs or volunteering, is this not included? Is there an interview for this program, or do I just submit online and hope for an acceptance?
I am reasonably confident that I can get a DO acceptance somewhere, but I would love to stay in Texas, so I'm really interested in this program.
Thank you

😕 Are there any OOS students who completed the Medical Sci master and became a Texas resident? Do you become a Texas resident after living in TX for a year (by the time you enroll in a medical school or by the time you apply)?
Thanks 🙂
I think if you get a job (you could probably work on campus a few hours a week) for a year--you will be able to become a Texas resident the fastest without having to own property.... not sure, definitely something to look into though. Those who are OOS in the program now are not considered in-state just for living here while in the program... You have to actually own property, etc. But if you work for a year, I think you will file federal taxes with a Texas occupation--thus making you a resident??? Not sure--just throwing that out there. My roommate is planning to do something like this... I'll see if I can get more info from her.
Thank you, if you you could get more info from your roommate that would be great. I'm worried about being considered OOS and not having the same opportunity to get accepted to medical school since the schools give priority to in-state applicants. I'm a Florida resident 😛
Q. How do I establish residency?
A. One must be an independent (not claimed as a dependent for income tax purposes), US citizen or permanent resident, (have a green card, also known as card I-551 or the evidence of I-551 stamp in the passport) or international student who is eligible to establish a domicile in Texas and live in the state of Texas for 12 consecutive months and establish a domicile in Texas prior to enrollment.

Q. How do I establish a domicile in Texas?
A. A domicile in Texas is presumed if, at least 12 months prior to the census date of the semester in which he or she is to enroll, at least one of the following applies: 1) the person owns real property in Texas, 2) the person owns a business in Texas, 3) the person is married to someone who has established a domicile in Texas, 4) the person has had gainful employment other than work-study and other such student employment in Texas.
That's a little concerning,
I'll probably apply TMDSAS as well, though I'm not confident I'll get any acceptances, I understand that you have to in order to transition into TCOM anyways.
Anyways, I really appreciate the response Tirgwyn, thank you.
I keep hearing from people that you have a better chance of getting in if either the MCAT or the GPA is low. If both are good, then your chances decrease.
I wanted to know if this is true since that's not the typical thing for grad schools. I have a 3.59 GPA and a 29 MCAT. I'm fine with both grades, but I feel like they are both on the average side. Not really too sure on what my chances are of getting in to this program.
Hi everyone! I'm new to SDN and have been trying to read as many threads so I wouldn't repeat the same questions.
My MCAT is 22R, and my GPA is 3.0. I graduated 5 years ago and have been teaching science ever since. Now I decided to go back to the original plan (med school) and this program seemed like the perfect route. I have applied and now I am patiently waiting to find out if I got in. What are my chances? I am not sure what an "average" applicant's stats are...
My big question is regarding the MCAT. I know I need to get my score up, but should I be studying now for the April MCAT, so I can take it before the program and completely focus on my classes once I start it (given that I get accepted), or should I wait for the summer MCAT class and study then... or both?
Also, in one of the threads I read about the possiblity of TCOM offering the MD route soon. How soon? Is that in the discussion phase or it's for sure that it will happen?
Thanks!
I haven't gotten anything from the medical master program about an EUID number. But if you have applied for their DO school for Fall 2010 then you can use that ID number to check. Or you can call the office if it a big concern for u...Has anyone gotten their EUID in an email yet? I haven't and I'm anxious to find out if my app is complete (I called, they said it hasn't been processed yet). I'm pretty sure I didn't forget to mail anything out but juuust in case... what happens if I did forget something or I sent it but it didn't get there and they notify me after March 12? Will they give me time to re-send it?
3 more weeks until we find out who got in... ugh... hate the wait!
I called the office and also used my EUID to check onlineso tell me everything you did to make sure all your stuff was in -- that they had all your stuff and your application was set
I talked about my professional goals and my views on medicine. why I wanted to do medicine. and how the program would help me. but from what i hear they look at your overall application so all the weight won't necessarily be on your statement (if that makes you feel a little better).thanks I'm nervous about this whole thing. Still wondering if I took the right track on personal statement etc.
What approach did you all take on personal statement

I received an e-mail today with my EIUD number. My check was cashed yesterday. 🙄
I'm in the same boat... whatelse can I do? except to wait... *SIGH*🙁Do we find out early April...like the first week...or around the second week...I hate this wait...![]()
@readdoc; about the personal statement approach
I had no previous hospital or research experience, I am non-trad career changer so I spoke of experiences along the way that helped shape my passion for the field, and then I explained how in the end I decided to chase the dream and how this program would help me get there. I tried to be as transparent and honest as possible, let them see my personality, my passions, my motives, and hope they believe it 🙂
@Tortue: I called to ask the same thing (they may start screening calls because of me soon haha) and they said the acceptance letters usually go out around the second week of April. So yeah, 4 more weeks of torture!!!!!
On my last two tries I got 22R and 22Q. The physical sciences are kicking my a** (got a 6 there!)! I just don't remember that stuff and the more I review it the more I hate it, and the more I hate it the less I retain...
So yeah... I've been asking for MCAT advice all over the place and everyone so far says: RETAKE IT BEFORE THE PROGRAM STARTS... and if you score below 28 then you should retake it while in the program. I want to avoid taking the MCAT class during the summer semester because of the tight finances and because the biostats class apparently is a monster... and I really really really want to do good in this program, so... MCAT it is! I kinda started studying, planning to take the last one they offer before the classes start. I'll be applying to TCOM this summer even if I don't get in the MedSci postbac... it's worth a try...
I think they add it to your tuition. It's a princeton review course too though!I'm confused here...we have to pay for the class out of pocket? or is it added to the curriculum and it's included w/the tuition for the summer? how does it work? 😕
I took a princeton class in the summer of 09 and I'm retaking it now (free b/c of their guaranteed thing). Thanks

My understanding is that your summer tuition would be somewhat lower if you were to skip the MCAT prep.
