The thread from those who matched was really great, just the kind of info I've been looking for. If it's not to much to ask, would those who didn't match mind posting the same info? That would really help me see if I might have a chance.

--Board Scores:
--AOA and class rank: if known
--Reputation of medical school: (top 10, top 25, etc)
--Research: (none, some ophtho with no publications, ophtho publications)
--Honors in clerkships: (especially surgery and medicine)
--# and where you did away rotations:
--# of programs you applied to:
--Where invited for interviews:
--Anything that helped/hurted your app: (ie: a phone call from your advisor to another program, big-wig letter of recs, MD/PhD, other degree, etc)
Also, did you have a backup application to a different specialty or are you reapplying to rad onc?

Even though this is an anonymous forum, I don't know if you're going to get any replies. Perhaps we could ask stephew for help. People could send their info to her and she (if she agrees) could post it so that they would remain anonymous.

well an easier way (and a way that assures no one accuses me of posting their info that they dont want posted) is to sign in under a different screenname and post your info.

Yes, you're right. But I can't believe I'm hearing a moderator endorse actions that would violate SDN forum rules. We wouldn't want to lose our superb moderator so let's all look the other way...

Hi! here's my info 🙂

Top third of the class, "low 50 school"
aoa
Step 1 240 step 2 248
third year honors in everything but peds, did 1 away rotation, got a B (that grade wasn't in when I applied)
some research, no publications
many extracurricular activities

Got 5 interviews, ended up ranking only 2 higher than where I matched in IM

what I think hurt my appl the most: no publications, rec letters were from "unknowns", and just finding out about the field too late.

Hope that helps!! and good luck to all of those applying next year 🙂

Why did you end up not ranking the other rad onc residencies above the IM?

I guess they didn't convince me (in one they treated me terrible during the interview, one was in a city where I would prefer not to live, and the other one I liked but due to my significant other and family preferences I ranked it lower. ) Also, I had "better" options in IM.
Maybe I was too dissappointed b/c at first I expected to get more interviews. I had no idea how competitive this field is, and I wasn't prepared. I think if I were to apply again and get the things that were missing from my appl. I would do better.

So, didn't anyone else not match in Rad Onc? I feel so alone on this thread 🙁

Hey man,

Don't feel that way ... I went through my story in another thread. People keep saying that if you want it bad enough and work hard, it'll come. I'm giving it another go. Are you, or are you going to do a categorical IM residency?

Anyway, good luck!
