Saw a posting for an open PGY2 spot. I had completed 3 years in a program before leaving. Past 2 years worked as a Path assitant but continued to review slides and read on my own time. Averaged about 10 cases per day over this time and found that I learned a lot and now my amateur diagnosis match the attendings 95% of the time. Of course I am reviewing already (signed out) determined cases.

I emailed the PD asking for a chance to speak to him by phone to explain my situation. Anyone know of this progam and would they be willing to take on a FMG. I passed steps 1, 2, 3, CSA and also have a PHD and 2 years cancer research at Harvard. I emailed the PD my rotations and a generic letter I got from my old PD stating my rotations and credits.

Any thoughts or ideas as to what else I could do? I would just like to complete my training and then move into research.

thanks for any input.

I sent him and email and asked permission to call at a time of his convenience. Will wait to see what he said. I called the coordinator to verify the position is still open and it is. I am trying to get to him before the PC just screens me out without letting me explain my situation. Hope it works thanks

Call your old program director and have him/her put in a good word for you with the Texas Tech program director. Since you are no longer tied to your old program, a recommendation from the PD would carry a lot of weight. Hopefully you didn't burn any bridges with your old program.

Hey, I'm a pathology resident at the Lubbock program. Are you still trying to get in contact with someone there? If you have talked with our coordinator I'm surprised she hasn't set up an interview for you. Let me know if you have any questions.

I send you a private message. Looking for some information on the program and the general culture. I spoke to the PC this am but not sure how willing she is to let me talk to the PD. She had a lot of questions about my background which I think I answered pretty well. I hope that if there are concerns they ask me about rather then not respond.

Continuing to hope and pray that I am able to finish this long journey. I saw they might have 2 opens slots PGY2 and PGY4 not sure which year you are or what the culture if like. I assume that it is good for you since you seem happy there.

I hope that if there are concerns they ask me about rather then not respond.

I think you are thinking about this in the wrong way. It is your job to sell yourself to them. Address any issues without having to be asked. You know your own background and what the possible red flags are. Having a discussion about these things is better than not.

thanks for the advice gene, I went over with the PC my background and reasons for leaving my last program. I have asked my old PD to send a letter the program and that will be done tuesday. Already outlined to the PC what improvements I have made and that I have stayed active in Path after leaving my program. PC was firm on having me talk to her not directly to PD which I understand and respect. Told her last 2 years I was working as Path Assistant in hospital and continued to review slides and read 2 hours every day. THis has really helped my improve my knowledge and skills and kept me current. My current physicians are very supportive and willing to write me recommendations and often let me sit in on their discussions. I can easily get 3-4 LORS from pathologists at my current workplace but I think my old PDs letter will be critical. Not sure what else I can do without making them feel I am harassing them. Sent over my ECFMG cert, USMLE Steps, and PD Letter and Personal statement.
