The FSMB or whatever it is listed some states that do not require the completion of a full intern year for initial permanent licensure. However, when I went to the websites the application requirements contradicted this.

Although it doesn't make sense that this would be the case, does anyone know of any states that do not require completion of intern year? (for DOs). Also, am I able to APPLY before completion or must we wait until after internship to apply? I ask because I get a nice raise for having my license.

I cannot find the link for your now, but the individual state websites would be the most accurate.

If you are required to have completed your intern year for a full license, most will not allow you to apply and process your application without having completed the year (ie, you can't apply until you have completed the requirements). And I assume your program requires that you have the license *not* that you have simply applied for it to give you the raise.

The $100 a month you get for being a doc goes up to $400 something after you have obtained unrestricted licensure. I forget what it is actually called

The VSP ($5K annually) is automatic after intern year, doesn't have anything to do with licensure. For ASP ($15K annually) you do have to be licensed, but you can't get it during residency. See DOD 7000.14-R, v7A, ch5.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I had to get my license, too, after PGY 1, but didn't remember getting a raise on the VSP linked to it.

And Hooah: IIRC I applied (with assistance from my residency coordinator) close to, but before completion of my PGY 1. Virginia license. But, like Tic said, your VSP increase isn't strictly linked to your licensure, variations in timing shouldn't play too much into your decision on which state license to get.
