besides dat and gpa obviously, do adcom bother to read your application and your essay before they send you an invite for interview?

Check out the "20 Questions: Hal Lippman, DDS" at the SDN homepage. Hal is the Dir. of Admin at Nova. He claims that the personal statement is very important for screening.

I've been to several different info sessions with the director of admissions of several different med schools, and their advice in regards to personal essays and what you write throughout the application is very consistent with what Hal said in his interview.
