For any PD's or other residency reps, what has the applicant pool been like at your institution? We had a whopping two applicants for 6-8 PGY1 slots, which is terrible. There has typically been enough applicants to fill all slots between both training sites (12-16 total) but there are 4 applicants for a total of 12-16 spots this year.

Curious what the trend is for others to see if this is just an off year or perhaps there is an institutional problem.

From what I've heard, interest has been unprecedented. Could be PDs blowing smoke though.

That is weird. From what I've heard, we've had good interest.

Well in that case, it might be a lack of interest in the military...not a lack of interest in psych.

Actually military medical students have increased quite a bit due to the dwindling wars and huge accession bonuses. For some reason, the military students do not seem all that interested in psychiatry.

On the bright side, if those 4 applicants stumble upon this thread, you'll have made their day.

Looking at past results it seems like 10-14 psych applicants each year seems to be the usual. The low interest in military psych definitely does not seem to mirror the general med student population because that's relatively stable. Maybe a slight uptick from last years significant dip.

We've had 700+ applications for 9 positions, which is a definite increase per our coordinator.

Last year one of the coordinators told me at an interview they were expecting 900+ applications for 12 spots by the time ERAS closed. Apparently applications continue to roll in until February? (January? whenever ERAS shuts down for the year)

The graduating AMG pool is about the same to slightly up at our site. For those not required to go through the Match we are seeing about a 20% increase, which makes some sense given that the new all-in policy takes effect this year.

And with an N of 14, it's hard to make a lot of accurate observations about trending.
