Excellent !
Thanks a lot for recommending this article. I enjoyed reading it very much. It gives us more insight and understanding of the thought process of all the different bodies involved in dental licensure for foreign graduates. I wish they would publish more articles like this.
Although their argument may make sense, why did they not weigh the option of opening up more spaces for foreign trained dentists at accredited US and Canadian dental schools, even if necessary at a higher tuition (as if we're not paying enough, right?). That would allocate more funds for these programs and additionally would result in more lucrative salaries for faculty. I am not saying that this would be a silver bullet type of solution, but think of it this way ...
-There will arguably be some kind of shortage in dental providers once the baby boomers start retiring (which is about now)
-US dental schools are not graduating enough dentists to fill that vacuum
-Competition is fiercer than ever for us to get into advanced standing programs due to limited availability
-There are plenty of foreign trained dentists willing to be re-educated in order to gain accreditation (the proof is that I wrote this and you are reading it)
-Faculty is at an all time shortage due to non-competitive pay (do you blame them ?)
-Admit it ! We are willing to pay more - practically, whatever it takes !
