I read that article yesterday. It makes perfect sense to look for candidates with good teamwork and communication skills. Not only can it improve patient care (making less errors), but it will probably be more important as healthcare reform progresses and there is a bigger push for team based medicine (i.e. medical home model).
 
As a Canadian, I can tell you for a fact that these MMI's arent as effective as you may think. I know TONS of people who were able to memorize and bull**** an MMI answer when they really should not have been accepted to med school because they have horrible morales, beliefs, or are simply socially challenged

In theory, MMIs are a good idea. In reality anyone can skew an answer to sound "correct" to an MMI interviewer
