Interesting craiglist post

That's pretty insightful and the head hunter knows what he/she is talking about as far as NY/NJ hospital pharmacist situation goes.. I knew of 4 hospital closures in the area 2 of which were my accounts and the other 2 my buddies.

Now...Dallas DOP job being advertised, it's one of the 4 high profile DOP positions in DFW... and vacancy is rare. It's Plano Medical Center. I've worked with that facility before. And trust me, they probably have received over 100 resume and every head hunter in the US is trying to get that position filled...as 25% of $160,000 is a lot of money for finding a DOP. But... you wouldn't want to work there.. it's a POS job.

NM position... I believe is Las Cruces... it's been open for a while.. not too far from wonderful El Paso.

Other positions..I don't know much about.

Sounds like great opportunities but all of them seem to require yrs of management experience, etc...

which alot of new PharmDs dont have.....or even those that have been out some. It takes time to move into a mangement position usually in hospital.

Here are the options of getting into Pharmacy Management.

LTAC: Long Term Acute Care...usually a hospital within a hospital..typically 25 to 40 beds with most patient who are ICU step down patients with a length of stay at 25 to 28 days. This is a lot of work because it's usually a 1 to 2 man operation with some tech help. You'll be on call 24/7. But it gets you a DOP title on your resume.

Critical Access Hospital: 25 to 35 bed acute care hospital in rural areas... again..small operation.. but you would need to move..

Very rural hospital in a place no one wants to live.. like Caribou Maine or something...

If being a DOP is your goal... sacrifice of 3 to 5 years working your butt off in these smaller facilities will give you enough experience to land you a decent DOP job at a 150 to 200 bed facility eventually...

Residency and MBA will help..

DOP job is more stressful. But it's much cushier than other jobs. That's why once you become a DOP..you'd like to stay there.
