Intern Hours required for Licensure in NY?

Hi

I was a bit confused about the intern hours required to be licensed in NYS.

According to http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/pharm/pharmlic.htm#exp it states "All applicants except graduates of ACPE accredited programs leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree must complete an internship experience."

However on http://www.visalaw.com/IMG/pharmacistchart.pdf it states 6 full months after passing the NAPLEX?

Can someone shed some light on what is required to become licensed in regards to intern hours?

I do not believe PharmD graduates need intern hours for licensure.

As with all important questions, though, you should direct them to your school rather than an anonymous internet message board.

If you get in a NYS Pharmacy school you will fulfill the requirements. Basically, you need to complete IPPE/APPE which will cover the requirements.

Normally the extra internship requirements are a requirement for international grads. You went to a visa law website and that is why it said that. You'll be a domestic grad, so don't worry about it.

I called NYS BoP and they told me that there are no additional intern hours outside of the PharmD program. Also, I verified this with a pharmacist that has sat on the BoP by happenstance.

Hope it helps. Don't forget the compounding part of the boards.

If you have the required intern hours completed (1040 hours or so) you can take part 3 of the licensing exam (compounding) early.
