Hey guys,

I have a few questions if you don't mind. My friend is an international student currently working on his Ph.D at our local University with a student visa. He has completed a bachelors in science (Chem, i believe) and a masters in Biotechnology or Biochemistry, all of these were done back in India. My friend is interested in pursuing medicine. I was wondering if his pre req courses could transfer over so he doesn't have to take the classes again? Can he achieve this through companies like spantran, etc? Any other advice i can give him? I don't really know much about international applicants, he would like to practice and go to school in the U.S. .

Thank you.

Most schools require international students to have taken their prereqs or a year of coursework in the US. I am an international student but I did my undergrad in the US so I haven't had to deal with that. I know on the international student thread there were a couple people who had to get transcripts WES certified. If you do a search you should find the thread.

One more point is that some schools require you to be either a citizen or permanent resident (green card holder). So that is something to keep on mind. I talked with a couple international applicants on the interview trail and they said they had to be very mindful of what schools they apply to.

Yep. Something to definitely keep in mind especially if he's not Canadian. Hell primarily be relegated to private schools. Before applying he should use the MSAR to screen for schools that say they accept international students then confirm on individual school websites.

Thanks for your replies. He's already attending the university for a Ph.D, I'm sure he had to do some sort of credit evaluating process. I appreciate the inputs!
