How hard is it for internationals to get into a carribean med sch?

I'm a sch leaver (did yr 12 in australia) with pretty decent grades...but there r soo few med places for international undergrads in Oz! I'm not sure wat to do next...prolly take a gap yr n reapply...

Any advice would b appreciated!

i don't think that it is incredibly difficult for internationals to get an acceptance, but your grades, of course, still have to be decent. aren't there some reputable schools in australia? 🙂

is it possible to transfer from yr 1 in an oz med sch to a caribbean one, or a uk/irish one?

While getting accepted into these schools is usually not a problem, being able to get a visa to complete clinicals in the US usually is. These schools cannot sponser visas since they are not US schools and very few have rotation sites in Aulstralia.
If you get accepted, do your homework on visa options during clinical years for US or UK.

Actually i'm not too worried abt clinicals yet! I'm more concerned whether they allow transfers from 1st yr med elswhere...

Well, you should be worried about it! There are students from my school who are stuck in their home countries with 2 year of med school, a great step 1 score and lots of debt. They can't get their clinicals done anywhere because of visa issues.

oh! thanks for telling me! where r u from btw?

tkd,
What are you thinking? Carib schools are 4 year programs, with the 1st two years in the Caribbeans and the last two years in the USA. They cater to American students. How in the world are you gonna get a visa that will allow you to stay in the USA for years 3&4 of your medical education. Sure, you will be granted a student visa to the Carib island that the school is located on, but you're not going to be able to use that student visa to do years 3&4 in the USA. Therefore, you won't ever graduate.

You are given a student visa to do rotations unless you are from a suspicious country like Sudan or Yemen...etc.

Lots of Canadians and Indian's do it. If they can get visa's why can't an australian. You just have to apply at the right time. So just do some research and u'll be fine. I'm not sure about the transfers though, i haven't heard anythingn about it. I know u can transfer from some caribean schools to other's, but not sure about oz school ?? So ask the school !!
