Neurosurgery would not be the specialty to go into if you want to be involved in caring for underserved people overseas as neurosugery care typically requires specialized equipment not available everywhere.

However, some neurosurgeons do volunteer their time in helping with neurosurgery training overseas. The Foundation for International Educations in Neurological Surgery (www.fiens.org) sends people to underserved areas of the world.
