I was wondering if someone would be able to explain how to go about interning as a student pharmacist in Illinois. I know that the state doesn't require intern hours beyond what are accumulmated through rotations, and that they don't issue student pharmacist/intern licenses. Do you usually just get a technician job and transition into an intern position, or just start calling up pharmacies asking if they are looking for student interns?

Hopefully a fellow Illinoisian can help me out!

Currently, you'll need a pharm tech license. The employer can then designate you as a student pharmacist. As long as your employer has you categorized as a student, you'll be able to counsel, etc.
The licensing issue might change because they are changing the pharm tech licensing requirements by requiring certification. They are trying to get students exempted from that rule.
