Nominations are currently being solicited for appointed positions to the Resident Physician Council (RPC) of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R). The deadline has been extended until Friday, August 24 th. We are especially looking for PGY1s and PGY2s to cultivate interest in leadership opportunities for new PM&R residents within the Academy.

The positions available are bylaws and nominating committee reps (both not funded to attend the interim meeting), Reps to medical education committee, Membership committee, Public and Professional Awareness committee, Quality Practice and Policy committee, rep to AMA-RFS, residency program communciation chair, and rep to RRC(this one is NOT appointed by the RPC but we recommend a candidate to the RRC). Here is the current roster: http://aapmr.org/resident/rpc/roster.htm

Briefly: membership committee - looks at Academy membership and how to best serve them

Med Ed - looks at Academy educational resources - there will be an online learning system coming soon

QPP - looking at performance measures to prepare for P4P and other issues impacting physiatrist practice

PPA - increase public and professional awareness of the field

Rep to AMA - represent PM&R residents at the AMA Resident Fellows Section level

Rep to RRC - represent resident interest at the RRC - looking at accreditation issues, etc.

Residency Program Chair - maintaining a communication mechanism to reach as many PM&R residents as possible.

Most positions involve at least quarterly to monthly conference calls, one interim RPC meeting, one meeting of the parent committee, and additional conference calls for the parent committee. In addition, RPC board members usually contribute to the Resident Newsletter by submitting articles.

Apply by sending your CV and a brief personal statement (why you want to get involved) to Katrina Holland at [email protected].
