Interpreting the silence...

To preface, I feel like I'm objectively doing fine... I've had 3 interviews, have 2 more scheduled, and only 1 rejection. But what about the other 13 schools I applied to that I've heard nothing back from? What does the silence mean? Should I still hold on hope for more interviews or assume the process is dying down a little bit?

My school interviews 10-15% of applicants. If every school was like mine, and you applied to 19 schools you should have 2-3 interviews. You got 5. Some schools will hold off sending rejections until the end of the cycle. If you get any more interview invites, consider them pleasant surprises.

Yeah, 5 interviews is still 5 more than 0, which A LOT of folks on SDN (and off it) are currently stressing out with. Rock your next 2 interviews, keep your fingers crossed for the 3 you've already finished, and don't get hung up over what you "don't know" slash "haven't heard."

With all the silent rejections, pre-interview holds, and different processes that each school does, there's really no way to interpret the "silence." Silence at one school may be a good sign, while silence at another is worse than a flat-out rejection. 😉 Gl!

I'm in a rather cynical mood today, so I'm starting to think that posts like these are really meant to say "why aren't these medical schools falling over themselves to give me IIs!
