I have interviews now at both Wayne State University and Ferris State University COP coming up this month, and I need some advice.

I have a nose piercing--it's a really small stud on the side of my nose. It's nothing obnoxious--just adds a small hint of sparkle.

I don't want anything about my appearance to hinder my chances of getting into these programs, but I did spend quite a bit of money for this nose ring and I honestly don't want to take it out unless I'm fairly certain it will negatively affect my interview.

Opinions? Should I take it out? Is there anyone who got in to either of these schools with a nose piercing?

Just take it out. I've never seen anyone look more attractive with a nose ring than without.

well i guess everyone is in agreement...i suppose i will have to take it out 🙁. although this surprises me a bit since i work with a pharmacist who has one and i know another pharmacist who has one as well...maybe they got them after the interview?? 😕

Take it out. And don't wear too much perfume/cologne.

I'm sitting here at my job now watching HULU and wearing a shirt with a ketchup stain on it. I wore a suit when I interviewed for this position.

Honestly I don't think you can compare wearing a shirt with a ketchup stain on it to having a nose piercing.

I'm just saying before your "in" you need to make the best impression possible and a lot of older folks could think your nose ring is completely barbaric and inappropriate. Why risk it. With your pharmD in hand wear it to work all you want.

haha ok yeah i guess i see what you're saying.

Just a warning, nose piercings close up fast. Like with in hours! So make sure to put back in right away, but you're probably going to have to get it re-pierced.

I didn't apply to those schools but I have my nose pierced and I left it in during my interview at LECOM

I have an industrial and helix piercing as well which I took out because I felt those were too obnoxious 😛

my nose ring is also very small and I considered taking it out but since it's a nose ring bone (rather than a nose screw) I figured if I took it out I would have an even more noticeable inflamed and red nostril so I decided to keep it in 😛

My interview went really well and I was accepted at LECOM 😀...I plan on leaving my nose ring in for the rest of my interviews 🙂

***I would keep it in especially if it's not that noticeable HOWEVER if you feel that taking it out will make you more confident about your chances then I would take it out 🙂

either way I think they care more about what you have to say, how you carry yourself and how personable you are...just be confident and smile! 🙂

I hope that helped!

Best of luck!! :luck: :xf:

Although this is not a nose piercing.. I have both my ears pierced and am a guy ( let the comments pour in haha), but they aren't too big or annoying and I was debating myself whether or not to take them out. At both interview I kept them in. I was accepted to one school, D'Youville, and and waiting to hear back from Albany. I work at a pharmacy and as silly as it sounds, its kind of what I am known for by the older crowd who comes in. They used to say, "why do you wear them earings, your no girl!" and then slowly over time I built a good relationship with them and I changed their opinion on it.

I debating like you said to myself that if my earings stand out and are negative and I do not get the interview, then I didn't do a good enough job selling myself in the interview.

My sister and brother both said that they would take them out but that it was their opinion and I should do what I feel most comfortable with.

When it was all said and done, I feel most comfortable being me and within reason I felt that leaving them in was neither obnoxious or too much!

A chick at one of my interviews had a nose piercing. I don't know if she got in or not, but the dean and a couple of pharmacy students weren't bothered and seemed to enjoy talking to her. Interpret that how you will and good luck.

I decided to take it out...but I'm slightly regretting it. If I still care enough once I'm accepted, I'll get it re-pierced or something. No one seems to mind at my pharmacy. I even met a pharmacist with two obvious tattoos on her forearm that were clearly visible! So we'll see. I do think it was the right choice for the interview. Thanks, everyone, for your honest responses!
