I was wondering what you all thought about this topic. I have an interview at the end of the month. I will be 21 weeks pregnant. Is this something I should hide. I know it shouldn't hurt my chances but... Should I express the positive aspects of the pregnancy like added motivation, or keep it low key? Any opinions or advice?

I wouldn't try to hide it--21 weeks is probably too far along to hide--and if you try to hide it--I think you may give the impression that you are ashamed...Not a good impression.

well.........21 weeks pregnancy will definetely be noticable...........so whether you tell them or not..........they will definetely know.........

Thus, I think you are better off just telling them....

don't hide it 🙂

I would not hide it, you will have the baby before Pharmacy School starts in the Fall so having to miss school wouldn't be an issue. There are plenty of Pharmacy students out there with young children that are doing great in school.

I would not hide it because if the school does look down on you for being pregnant, then is that really the kind of atmosphere you want to be raising your baby in? I think it would be a good way to test how family-friendly the climate of the school is.

When you ask "hide it" - are you referring to what you wear? No - you wear the professional suit which looks the very best on you. For you, it will be unfortunate since you'll probably not wear this suit much again unless you interview during another pregnancy.....but, kids are expensive. This is just one more expense. In choosing the suit you interview in, the rule applies to anyone - big, small, male, female, tall, short - wear the suit which looks best on you.

Your interviewer cannot ask you about your pregnancy legally & I'm pretty sure no one will. I would advise you not bringing it up since has nothing to do with your abilities to attend school (you should have your obligations thought about & covered) nor your desire to become a good pharmacist. It is obviously a personal happiness of yours, but this is not the time nor place to share it with someone who has the ability to decide your future. Keep on the topic of pharmacy - not because you are "hiding" but because that is what the interview is about.

Your "condition" is temporary, although your life change of becoming a parent is permanent. This is no different from someone who has an artifical leg or a mental illness (both of which exist in some medical & or pharmacy school classses I'm personally familiar with). They are irrelevant to becoming a pharmacist or a physician. Your contribution toward your interview should stay on topic of how much you can & want to contribute to pharmacy as a profession and how well attending this school will allow you to learn the skills to help you do that.

Good luck!

It may work to your advantage. Check out the movie Knocked Up.

I agree with the other posters - keep it low key, but I do think you should be prepared with some answers in case somebody does want to talk to you about it. In the interviews I went to there was also time for the prospective students to talk to each other, and you are bound to get some questions then. Since that scenario might potentially happen while there are some school personnel or interviewers around, you just want to make sure that you do handle any questions well. And, I can tell you from personal experience that just because it's illegal for an interviewer to ask about pregnancy or child issues doesn't mean that they won't ask.

Good luck!

I was in the same situation went i went for interview. But I was 33 weeks. I could not hide anything. They will not ask you anything about the pregnancy. there might be a time that you need to mention it, but it is not necessary. You can wear suit specially designed for maternity, like what I did. It wont show as much as you think. Do not be embarrassed, but be positive about it. good luck. i got in to pharmacy school and interviewed pregnant. There is nothing to stop us. Good luck.

I completely agree with pharmacogenomic. Find an interview suit that looks nice and fits you well. Nothing worse than an ill-fitting suit that doesn't make you feel good. Maternity clothes are expensive, and a suit is expensive too. At 21 weeks, you may not be very obvious (different people start to show differently). I remember at 21 weeks pregnant, I barely had a little bump and it was easy to hide. But, if you have more than a little baby bump, don't try to hide it. 🙂

Legally, you are not obligated to disclose the fact that you are pregnant, nor can the interviewer ask you if you're expecting/when you're due. So, definitely keep this in mind. Good luck in your interview.

I love to shop. Motherhood Maternity online has some jackets/pants, but no suit sets. I'd recommend going into the store to see how the fabrics match.

Pea in the Pod is super-expensive, but offers really nice career wear.

You may even try an eBay search.

I found this site by doing a quick online search: http://www.blossommaternity.com/maternity_suits_10.htm

Thank you all for the good advice. I've been looking for outfits. I don't like how the suits fit me. I have narrowed it down to brown pants with a blouse or black pin-stripe pants with a black velvet top. The problem is that I can't tuck in my shirts, so I won't give off a neat stream lined appearance. What do you think? Thanks again for all the great responses!

I must say, I have mad respect for you. It's hard enough doing pharmacy school with a cat. I couldn't imagine doing it with a small kid. Good for you!!!
