I have an interview with Appalachia on November 10th. Does anyone have an interview with them on the same day? Anyone want to carpool? Please reply! thanks!
i live in NC.... so im driving the 6 hours - so ill be leaving at midnight friday and i should get there no later than 7 which gives me an hour and a half to get acquainted with the area ;-) im gonna be so beat after that day is over!
anyone else gonna be there on the 10th? im really excited about this! i cant wait to meet the faculty i hope it doesnt snow a blizzard or anything b/c my car will never make it! lol i think the school has reasonable tuition and the students with whom i have spoken with all say it was a pleasant experience....so i hope you guys who turn down this interview wont regret it! ;-)

^i am not alone!
i used the address on their site using Google Earth (yeah i'm a dork) and it zoomed into a random area of forest...no cities nearby or anything..
It wont take you long to get acquainted with the area, the town consists of one road, I interviewed there last year...you will know what I mean after your interview.
For the person planning to drive from midnight and get there at 7AM, don't do that. It's a VERY bad idea. I think you should spend that extra $89 and book the hotel room. There are no street lights and if you get lost, nobody will be there to help you. Your phone won't work. What if you miss the interview? On top of that, you want to be fresh and ready for your interview, not tired and worn out. And then to drive back another 6 hours after the interview?? Very bad idea.
As far as the location, no matter how bad people tell you about it, you won't believe it until you come here for an interview and actually live here. It's UNIMAGINABLE!!! You just have to see it yourself. I'm not even talking about clubs and bars. I'm talking about having something decent to eat, you have to drive 2 hours.
The school is still a work in progress. People have better chances of getting in if they interview early. I know people with 3.4GPA and got rejected and people with 2.6 and got accepted. I think the interview is very important.
Good luck to all!
like i said a dozen times before the location of the school is not an issue for me..i have been around there before and i know its rural. my only concern about the school is the cost. i worry that i will owe tons of money when i graduate and thats not something i am crazy about! i have heard through the grapevine that the cost for the first year is $20k and 2nd and 3rd about $26k.... not bad but factor in the cost of living which some have said upwards of $750/month for an apartment....$70 internet/satellite....$40 water....$40 electricity. thats about $900/month and im sure these apartments probably have a year lease! about $10,800 for a year + tuition, and these will be private loans (until the school gets federal aid..). this would be the only thing keeping me from going there if i get accepted. as for everything else said before about the school, i really dont plan on having much of a life outside of school anyway so its probably better that its remote! 😉
The apartments you are referring to are 750.00 for a two bedroom apartment and the internet is high speed cable from Time Warner that runs about 30 dollars a month. A single apartment around here can be found for $350 to $500 a month.
Does this school absolutely require public speaking? My CC does not offer this class and APP was one of my choices if I can't get into a nearby state school.
Its all the more disappointing because I would have every other pre-req covered.
We have something called "Fundamentals of Speech". And regardless it would be impossible to fill between now and spring of 09. I'm taking both of this year's summer sessions, and then 19 credits in fall of 08 and 19 credits in spring of 09.
I took two years of a foreign language at another college would that possibly count as a substitute?
Many don't require it, ie. Buffalo, Albany, LECOM, Rutgers and Philadelphia to name a few.
