Im sure this has been done 100 times, but does anyone have dress advice for interviews (particularly females?)?? I went today and purchased a suit at foley's (like famous barr or dillard's). It is brown with pen stripes. The foley's sales person said it fit me well, and I liked it alot until I went to this other more up-scale store to get a shirt to go underneath it. The sales lady there basically told me it was a piece of crap. She said she dresses news casters and lots of professionals (lawyers, dr's). She tried to sell me a really nice suit, that I was not comfortable in at all, and that cost 2x what the brown one did (she was VERY pushy). Anyway, now that I am home with the brown suit... Im doubting it... thinking maybe I should have gone with the safe choice of black or blue. I just wanted to be a bit different, and stand out from the others... but not too much!!! HELP! :scared:

Whatever you are comfortable with, fits, and looks good on you is always a great thing! Suits are always professional, and are a plus. I've seen people with jeans to an interview and it looks tacky. Black is usually the traditional color for suits, but any color works. Now just find a nice collared shirt to match and you're set!

If you're comfortable in your brown suit, I say keep it. The more comfortable you are, the more confident you will be at your interview. Don't listen to the sales lady; she's just trying to make a buck. Anyone who has to resort to pushy sales techniques does not have your best interest in mind.

Good luck at your interview!
🙂

I agree, wear what looks nice, but make sure that you're comfortable in it. I found a dark gray suit with subtle blue pinstripes... it looks great, but most importantly, I feel good in it.

Depending on the shade of brown of your suit, a nice pink shirt could look great - and you'll stand out because you won't be wearing the typical black/white combo.

Good luck! :luck:

Wear black. Brown isn't as professional looking as black and most likely 99% will be wearing a black suit. You don't want to stand out because of what you wore, but rather, what you say at the interview. Remember that you're applying for Pharmacy school, not the fashion institute  . The only thing you should really have a choice in is the shirt and tie you are wearing underneath. If you're a girl, your hair should be neatly styled and tied back. No scrunchies. No perfume. Black dress shoes, black socks. Anymore questions?

Black, brown, gray, blue... with stripes or without... Its fine. A suit is a suit. As long as you feel comfortable in it, that is the most important thing. I've been to 4 interviews and while most were black, there were grays and browns and blues... lots of stripes. You'll be fine.

I bought 2 suits, a gray one and a black one. I ended up wearing the black one to all 4 interviews but I think that is just because I got comfortable in it. I have never worn a suit in my life and I just felt awkward in it at first. You'll feel better in it if you practice wearing it. 👍

If you like the brown, then by all means go with the brown! It's still a conservative color, and many people look better in brown than black. There is no reason why you should have to spend what a newscaster would spend on a suit. I'm thinking that once you become a pharmacy student you probably won't be wearing a suit much! As long as you are dressed business like and appropriately, I'm not sure that it matters too much. I wore a very muted purple suit to my first interview and I felt completely comfortable.

brown or black or navy. all are acceptable, as long as they don't look tacky or has the unconventional design.
don't know why pple wear black more than other colors. it's probably b/c it seems safer to stick w/ the traditional color. every interview is like a memorial service: black, black, and black.

we are the future professionals of the pharmaceutical field, but we are also female. heck, if i have the power, i would encourage all the female students going to interviews to wear pink, lavender, and yellow to express our feminine side.
anyway, 80% pharmacists are women, so why are we still stuck w/ those ugly colors like black and blue that the men prefer to wear.

I wore a brown suit, crazy patterned green and brown silk shirt, and lime green suede flats. I do not believe in looking like a clone.

I paid $ 300 for my siut TAHARI🙂 It is not only for school interviews, you will need it for job interview🙂

yeah, i bought a black suit with silver/sparkly pinstripes for $50 and a $15 white blouse (all from Belk, on sale, clearly).....it looks fine, i couldnt tell any difference in this one and the more expensive ones i tried on. And I've gotten into the only school I've heard from, so um, yeah whatever that means. you'll be fine.

I wore a dark brown suit and a light pink shirt to my 1st interview and I didn't feel underdressed or out of place at all. Who the hell cares what color your suit is!? If you're comfortable and you look classy you are good to go!🙂

I agree with the others who said if you like the brown & the brown looks good on you...wear the brown. My daughter did 10 interviews for med school last year - she had 2 suits (due to weather conditions over the months & locations) - one brown & one purple (gasp!?!?)...and she had 9 acceptances. If you're unsure if it fits well & looks good/professional - ask a third party (your mom, a female professional, other older adult) what she thinks. IMO - the suit should complement your personality so your personality is the things that's noticed by the interviewers.

btw...the only reason I suggested older adult is because occassionally younger adults tend to like clothes to fit too closely to be considered "traditionally" professional. Since older folks are making judgement decisions, you gotta live in their world.
