I got this email from NYMC today:

Dear NapeSpikes,

We have rescheduled you for 2/XX/06. Please be aware that we will make every effort to schedule you with an [sic] morning interview, however you may have an afternoon interview so please make your travel plans accordingly.

If you have further questions, please call the Admissions Office and speak with an Admissions Coordinator at 914-594-4507.

Thank you,

New York Medical College

Thing is, I never got an invite in the first place. I called the office to make sure that I was actually in the schedule, via my name and amcas ID #, and sure enough I was. I was just kind of dumbfounded and didn't ask the lady anymore questions.

Ummm, so I have no idea where to go, etc. Did other invitees get this email, or a more informative one? If it was the latter, can you copy and paste it here? Did your status page change? Mine didn't. WTF?? Oh, and what's the best way to get from DC to NYMC? Chinatown bus?

Wow, looks like you may have won the lottery for lucky! :luck: I say attend the interview and milk it for all it's worth! 😀 Last year when I was invited to interview at NYMC I had an official invite e-mail; thus either you never got that e-mail (it could've been filtered out, or any number of things), or you truly got an invite by mistake.

🙂 Ha! That's awesome. At least you found out about it before it was too late and they rejected you for not coming to your interview.

Are you in DC? I didn't know that. Anyway, I've heard bad things about the Chinatown bus. Mainly that it is unsafe and some of the drivers are nuts. Some friends of mine took it from DC to NY a while ago, and they said that while it was cheap, they wouldn't do it again. I'm not sure what's the best way, but since NYMC is in a suburb, if you have a car then maybe you could just drive.

Nope, I'm not in DC but I have my GW interview a few days before. Anyone have the NYMC email? This process is pure randomness.

Oooooohhhhh. I'm an idiot. Oh well, guess you won't be driving then. Maybe try Amtrak? Or if you want to live dangerously, the Chinatown bus.

edit: Did you let NYMC know that you would be back east then or something? Or was this just totally random and happend to work out with your GW interview?

omg. that's awesome. haha if you don't want it, i'll take your NYMC interview.

No, I let them know I was going to be out there, and just hinted that I wanted an interview. Maybe they assumed I had one?? Oh, and I sent the same email to a few schools, and no one else even responded with a polite "no."

And yourmom, if I get off the Rush waitlist by mistake in the next month, NYMC is all yours!

I took the Chinatown bus (I think it was the Apex bus) from DC to Philly in November and it was clean, comfortable, and safe. I've heard the same from others as well.

Am I the only one who totally doesn't get this thread?

You called and verified that you are invited, so how is that an "accidental" invitation?

Hopefully, NYMC will see it that way. But I still need the interview day info. I don't want to call again and draw attention to it, in case it was a mistake on their part.

Well I don't know. Maybe the one to Philly was better.

My friends said that their driver was psycho and kept narrowly missing other vehicles while honking constantly and yelling in Chinese. Plus they said the driver had the heat cranked up to like 80 degrees and I think maybe the windshield wipers didn't work. Apparently the trip back was fine though. Maybe it's just that one driver...I wonder if there's a website with ratings for this somewhere. 😉

Nape, did your online status ever change? That's crazy that they did this. Good luck at GW and now NYMC.

No, my status page still says something like "Interview details will be shown once you are invited" or something. Thanks for the GL.

And again, can someone PLEASE post or PM me their NYMC email invite?

Well Nape, I didn't get an invite this cycle (and don't really care with my Cincinnati acceptance), but here is what NYMC e-mailed me last year, hope it helps:

Dear Victor,

The Committee on Admissions would like to invite you to interview at the New York Medical College's Valhalla campus. We are pleased that you have applied to New York Medical College and look forward to your learning more about New York Medical College on your interview day.

You are authorized to use our web based interview scheduler, which you can access on the Admissions Check Status page, to conveniently schedule and confirm your interview date. Keep in mind that you have four weeks from the date of this email in which to schedule your interview. If you are unable to meet this deadline, we may still be able to accommodate you if you immediately contact an Admissions Coordinator at 914-594-4507 or email [email protected].

On the interview day, plan to arrive at the Admissions Office between 8:00 and 8:15 AM. We are located in the Administration Building, just to the right as you enter the building. Travel information including directions, map of the campus, parking information, ground transportation, hotel, and restaurant information is available on our web page at http://www.nymc.edu/admit/medical/info/index.asp . If you are driving to the campus, please review parking directions on the website prior to your arrival. Information regarding staying overnight with a student host is provided in the two attachments to this e-mail. Please use the campus status/weather link for important information during inclement weather.

The schedule for the day will include:

8:00 - 8:30 Continental Breakfast
8:30 - 9:30 Orientation to New York Medical College
9:45 - 11:45 Interview(s) and optional activities
12:00 - 1:00 Tour of the Campus and lunch with NYMC students
(When making travel plans, keep in mind that this sometimes runs past 1:00 but you will certainly be through by 1:30.)

About the interview(s) - - -
You will be scheduled for either one or two interviews. It will depend on our logistics and in no way reflect on your qualifications. Please bring two copies of your AMCAS Personal Comments essay to give to your interviewer(s).

Sincerely,

Carolyn J. Chiarieri, M.S.

I've taken the non-Chinatown DC-NY bus a bunch of times both ways, no problems. It's $35 RT, $20 one-way: http://www.washingtondeluxe.com/ Only caveat: get there early, they fill up and your "reservation" is a bunch of bull. Takes anywhere from 3.5 - 5 hours each way depending on traffic and stops.

A bit more convenient in location (a block from Penn Station in NYC and will drop you a block from Union Station in DC or @ McPherson Sq.). From there in NY you'd have to cross to Grand Central then take MetroNorth to NYMC, oui? (I haven't been there so I don't know, but I think that's where NYMC is?)

That looks like the same invite they sent this year.

Also, in case you're wondering- my status page did change to show what date I'd be interviewing. But if you called, and they confirmed it then hopefully you're all set.

If you have any questions about how to get there, parking, etc, just PM me. Good luck!

Nape, someone is handing you a big lucky lollipop. This would be an instance where it is fine to take candy from strangers.

Thanks guys, for the full invite email! Hopefully it was just an oversight that they sent me the wrong email, and nothing more. Either way, I'm heading to Valhalla (sp?)!

They sent me an e-mail with directions, instructions on where to be at what time, etc just a few days before my interview. So, they'll probably be sending you more specifics in the future. You just might want to check with them that they are sure of your e-mail address, cause that's how they do all of their communication. If you have a yahoo account, you might want to check that their e-mails don't go into your junk mail, because I've heard that that happens with NYMC e-mails sometimes. Anyway, you're lucky to get a Feb date, because people who are scheduling now are getting dates all the way in April. Best of luck, it's a great school.
