I see some of you guys have interviews at Albert Einstein. Can anyone comment on the differences of each AE system (ie. which is better for IM and/or its strengths in certain subspecialties), particularly Montefiore, Beth Israel and Long Island Jewish. I have yet to hear from them but they all seem to be great programs. I would love your personal opinions about these programs.

Thanks guys!!!

Got Scripps/Green invite today.

I hope that they send out invitations in waves, because a lot of you have gotten invites at places that I applied to but haven't heard from, and I'm concerned that no news means rejection.

On the other hand, the Dean's letter was just released this morning, so I think it's reasonable to wait a little bit for them to review my application with this new information. Plus, I submitted my application in late September and my Chairman's letter wasn't uploaded until 10/23....do you think that may cause a delay in some programs reviewing my application?

For those of you getting invites from ucsf, stanford, ucla, cornell, etc...when did you submit your application? and when were all of your documents uploaded (besides the dean's letter)? And when you list ucsf and ucla, i just want to make sure we're all on the same page here because "ucla" has a ton of programs---like the san fernando valley one in sylmar, the harbor-ucla program, the primary care or FP programs at ucla's santa monica and mid-valley location; and ucsf has a few satellite programs too in addition to multiple "medicine" programs at the main ucsf campus (e.g. primary care, FP). are you referring to the main internal medicine programs at these places, or are you leaving out any detail?

pardon the pessimism/cynic in me, but when you see someone posting info like this and find out that this is their first post, i want to make sure we're not being duped by pranksters who pray upon our vulnerable insecure type A personalities right now because if i were cruel i could come up with a "new" screen name right now and post that i got an invite from the brigham knowing that it would upset people or make them panic because they didn't get an invitation themselves. i hope there aren't malignant people like that lurking on these boards but i question the motives of anyone who goes to the trouble to create a screen name/profile only to dubiously announce that they got an invite from a highly sought-after program as the rest of us are biting our nails in anticipation. i'm not saying it isn't possible, just that i would trust someone more who's been posting all along (or at least more than once) than someone posting for the first time--especiallly something that the person probably knows would intimidate the rest of us reading. i think i'm not the only one who wants to find out if i've been invited for an interview by hearing from the program directly...not by reading about someone else's invitation that i didn't get that day. i digress...but it's just nervous rambling because i'm hoping to get the same news, but with every passing day the tension keeps rising.

thanks for reading.... 🙄

Could someone comment on desirability or pros and cons of the following programs:

1. Stanford
2. Michigan Ann Arbor
3. UCLA
4. Wash U in St. Louis

I got rejected by UNC early this morning. Oh well.....at least I have many other interviews scheduled at programs that I more interested in, so I am not too upset by the whole deal!

you might be right, i also noticed that alot of poster on here have like 1 post and thus are all new screennames. i wouldn't be suprirsed if there are some jackasses on here. either that or those ppl only feel secure enough about themselves to post if they got an interview 🙄

Well I might be a jackass, but I can tell you that the main UCLA categorical program is sending out invitations to interview. I sent in my application on 9/01 but it wasn't complete with chairmans letter until 10/20 or so. similarly dissapointed about UCSF but I figure that they MSPE's where just uploaded yesterday...

i was referring to UCSF's main program. they're interviewing from dec 7th-jan 23rd.

good luck.

Oh come on. I am going to wade in on the opposite side of this issue. And I say this as someone who does not currently hold an interview invite from UCSF, UCLA, Stanford, etc etc.

Perhaps this is naive, but I cannot imagine actually deriving pleasure from anonymously posting erroneous information for the express purpose of eliciting anxiety in people I will never know. I think you (and the majority of us chronic overachievers) are not accustomed to being considered "second string" and you reaction is to be incredulous. I am not trying to pick on you, but this is now November, and it's more than likely that when people post their interview invites, it is legit.

I am the only one on this current page who has posted just once and this is because I just became a member yesterday. As you can see by looking at my list of programs that I posted in my one single post, these are programs that other people have also claimed to have interviews at...so i don't get the point of accusing people of posting their interviews being fictional.

hi,

my first post was my mentioning of a ucsf interview. my username is essentially my real name (FI, MI, last name), so my anonymity is sort of limited here. i've applied to 12 programs total (only general categorical) -- besides ucsf i've received invites to vandy, case (my home program), and uchicago.

Nice Matt,

It's your heme/onc/sushi buddy from Case. I've applied to 15 and have the following interviews.

Case
CCF
Christiana (DE)
Thomas Jefferson
Temple
Michigan

My list is Philly-centric for obvious reasons.

Still waiting for the biggies. I've yet to receive any love since the MSPE's have gone out. A little disappointed... but optimistic.

Do you guys know if the programs will reject or just ignore the ones they don't want?

some programs take their time to send rejection emails, other let you out in the cold until you know is too late to get an invite (ex: middle of jan)

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center today

UCLA Olive View today

First rejection today from Mayo-Rochester🙁

To lend some support to those of you also waiting on UCSF, Yale, etc...

invites so far:
Columbia
Cornell
Mount Sinai
UTSW
UMich

Still waiting on: MGH, BWH, Penn, Hopkins, Yale, USCF, UWash, NYU, Albert Einstein, Baylor. 2 LoR's uploaded in Sept, but Chairman's letter not until 10/27.

There's a word for it: schadenfreude. The definition of the word comes from the German schaden (damage/harm) + freude (joy), and is defined as "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others." There is such a thing, and while some do it pathologically, it is what we refer to when "karma happens" and the guy who just dumped you gets VD from the new girl he's dating, or on a larger scale it's the whole idea behind tabloids...why do those mags sell so well when they just talk about all the misfortunes of celebs? Cause people get a sick pleasure out of seeing others suffer for a whole bunch of reasons.

You're right, this is new territory, and I'm anxious. I'm sorry! I confess!

And to indiamacbean--I know UCLA is sending out invites. So rather than worry and read about it on these boards I called them up today, along with a few other programs of interest, and asked what's up. I'm glad I did, because it turns out that I will be getting some emails tomorrow and next week, so no need to worry. There are many apps yet to be reviewed, so we can all take a deep breath and relax for a while.

mcindoe, you sound kinda crazy

hi benassi,

you can look back at this thread to verify these answers...
UCSF, and Columbia have started sending invites.. Brigham and MGH haven't.

By the way, I have major OCPD issues. Anyone want to start a running thread that people can add to like some of the surgery forums have done? I will start.
