Piedmont has a short essay during the interview session.
Anyone willing to share what it may be about? is it clinical or just a casual essay?

Yes, managed care in CA too! Got an invite from American Health Care, Kaiser, and Outcome Resources. Healthnet sent out their rejections pretty early. Best of luck to you!

I'm so glad to finally have someone mention managed care residencies! I applied in the south mainly. Anyone heard from Kelsey-Seybold, HCA or Maxor? I haven't heard anything but I am starting to consider that a no.

I know HCA has some interviews next week....not sure if it's PGY1 or PGY1 managed care though.

what kind of questions were you asked typically?

A quick Google search of "Pharmacy residency interview questions" bring up many results (UCSD, UCSF, UT are the ones I could remember posting them) with extensive lists of questions; I found very few questions to be outside of those (and the type you can't really prepare for either). The core ones are always, Why this program, and Why you (over other candidates). Plenty of "Tell me about a time when you disagree with someone/made a difficult decision/failed to do something even though you tried really hard/made an awesome intervention", etc.

If you can prepare those two core questions + the "tell me a time" questions and present them in multiple ways, you're ready. Oh and if at all possible, always try to come up with a solution (even if the way the question was phrased didn't seem like a solution was "asked" for). Eg If you disagreed with someone, how did you solve the conflict, what lesson did you learn.

Cool. That's what I have on my list too. Anything other than that, shouldn't be too bad to answer. thanks!!

Just got a rejection email from one of the VAs.....kind of assumed it was unspoken by now. Ha ha ha.

I believe we sent out more interview invites this week, for spots that some applicants declined.

Anybody know about Desert Regional Medical Center? Until I looked at this thread I was assuming rejection but their deadline was later so now I don't know.

The girl I interviewed with yesterday said that they already called people to set up interviews for next week. Apparently they use a 1-888- or 1-800- number to call and invite people for interviews. So maybe check your phone to see if you got any missed call.

Medical students do it all the time, although I've heard in pharmacy world it's viewed poorly and not advised to do

I agree.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that programs or candidates revealing their rankings to the other party is against the Match rules. If you want to send a thank you, I think that would be okay, and I've written some that stated that I was still interested in the program. However, I think that saying "you're my #1" would be overstepping the line.

I think you should send a good f/u thank you after the interview and leave it at that. Neither side is supposed to reveal hwo they would rank the other it is against Match rules. Additionally, while it is nice for the program to know that you are their top choice I don't feel that it has much bearing on how they will rank you and it makes you look desperate...just my 2 cents.

They're not really supposed to. What are they supposed to reply, "you're welcome" or "no, thank you for interviewing"?
of course i dont expect that kind of reply (but some really nice programs have said something along those lines!)
most of the programs i sent a thank you have replied saying something along the lines of please let me know if you have any additional questions

i did not receive a response for most of my thank u emails, which is normal.
even if they do reply back, it doesn't mean much.

I just finished all the interviews.
So many great programs, each has something unique and special about them. So hard to rank them! Have to factor location and weather into this rank list now.

I have my last interview Wednesday. Normally I write a handwritten thank you note but I know it won't get there before the match process on Friday. Should I just settle for an email thank you? Thoughts?

i wrote emails to them instead of written thank yous for this reason. i thought it would it affect my rank chances better, if it even affects my chances at all, to say thank you than to not. Additionally, most places will submit rank much earlier than friday to avoid having to deal with system crashes that are likely to happen that day due to overusage.

was there some heated debate/discussion among interviewers?

Definately. Everyone has different opinions and impressions of candidates. Students stress over ranking 3-8 programs which is bad, but we have to get 10 people to agree on a rank list of 40+ potential residents (not counting the ones that we won't rank at all).

Just curious, of the residents that eventually match, where do they usually fall on the program's rank list? Or is it a wash?
