IU Health sent out invites already
As for the VAs, I think a lot of them send invites already or at least to my friend. I don't know personally since didn't apply to VA.
I should clarify I got an interview from Henry Ford. I did not apply to TGH.
Neither of them had publications. Hope you hear back from them really soon! And with good news 😉.

Looks like I can mark two more off my list without even checking my inbox 😛 Oh, here's hoping the ace up my sleeve works out before the day's end![]()
What is considered a good amount of publications to be competitive? And do the publications have to be "clinical"?
In the PhD world it's publish or perish with as many first authorships as possible. For residency, does first author matter that much or is it sufficient to just have a publication regardless of where you are in the list? Just wondering what gets you into the "interview" pile if you already have the >3.5 GPA, work experience, and leadership.
Curious how many of you with interviews had more than one publication....
Anyone heard from VAs in FL like Miami, Gainesville, Lake City, or Pensacola? Or any hospitals in ATL or Jax,Fl?
I got rejected from Tampa VA.
Oh I already did, I was probably in the same "rejection" batch that your friends were in. I think my only weakness is no real publication other than an abstract. Which I think is the reason why I got rejected at TGH.
I think all of mine are in except for florida ones, for some reason florida program are taking more time that I thought they would. A lot of out of state programs are asking for like late to mid january invites, definitely not florida is shooting for.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm really surprised I even got interviews because although I have research experience both in undergrad and pharmacy school, I have nothing to show for it in terms of publishing a paper. But I guess that explains why I got rejected from now 2 University of "X" programs.
If I do match, I'll make an Average Joe's and Jane's thread (haven't checked if there's already one) 🙂
"Do you like drugs" will be my theme => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OFOP_BP8vM
and it's late and I'm ranting and being slow as h*ll trying to prepare a presentation 🙁
Having publications is always a plus but not as detrimental in applying to residencies as it is for PhDs. I'm sure there are some programs that weigh publications very heavily, but I think the overall idea is to be as well rounded as possible. A friend of mine had no publications or research and applied to ~7 programs (all big name academic programs) and got interviews with 2 highly sought after residency programs as well as some others. Ultimately, he showed himself to be a very well rounded individual and was able to convey motivation, dedication, and willingness to learn on his application. Conversely, he received a rejection from another highly sought after program. On the other hand, I have 2 publication, applied to 7 programs and received interviews and rejections from some highly sought after programs. There are so many qualities programs look for in an applicant and it may vary from place to place. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that not having a publication is not a "Death Sentence" per se for the residency applicant who wishes to apply for more prestigious programs. It looks great, but it will not always make or break an application.
Maybe someone who has a residency can provide more insight, but remember this is 1 program director/faculty/resident's perspective and cannot be applied to every institution, prestigious or not.
Wishing you the best of luck. I know we will all be able to breathe a bit easier when March comes and goes and we have a better idea of what we will be doing.
May the force be with everyone!🙂
I am now up to 3 interview invites and 3 rejections. Still waiting to hear from 3 programs. Out of curiousity, how is everyone else handling the issue of asking preceptors for days off and making up time to allow for interviews? Any advice/tips would be appreciated! Scheduling is starting to get tricky....there is the potential I may have to miss the first day of my next rotation due to an interview and the prospect of this does not feel quite right but I may not have a choice...

Seeing as today is MLK day and its a holiday, anyone hearing anything back? I am kinda tired of getting my hopes up every time I get a new email lol. Still at 2 invites and 8 unknown, getting worried.

They must have rejected me I applied to both Gainesville and Lake City VA. I figured I'd be a long shot...I also got 1 rejection and 1 invitation from Jax hospitals.I heard back from Gainesville and Lake City VA, and only one out of four ATL hospitals got back to me so far.
A friend of mine received 4 invites today alone (All Florida programs). I'm not sure if they just decided to sleep until today or what, but I guess some programs are meeting and sending out invites today.
Where in Florida were the invites from?
Heart skipped a beat today when i got a call from a strange area code. It was a telemarketer😡

Has anyone heard from Prebytarian hospital, charlotte NC and texas methodist health yet? Checking emails every 5mins, no interview yet!😕
My friend got an interview from Texas Methodist early last week....
I also got a rejection to UK.Got rejected from Uni of KY today! So yea, some programs are working on apps today. Good luck everyone!
I remember now why I used to be on this forum a lot, then fell away...you guys worry too much!!! You're making my blood pressure rise reading these comments and I was not even that worried.
Now i feel like the world is collapsing, everyone's getting a residency but me, and the interviews are going to include fire breathing monsters who ask us clinical questions and criticize our presentations!!! aahhhhh
same 😛I completely agree...yet i can't look away! 🙂

Thanks for the response. Was it a phone interview? I heard they would be doing on site interview soon
anyone hear from any cali places? i am 2/3 for invites and 7 unknown---
Can we assume at this point if the application was due the first week of January that you were rejected? Most places contacted me soon after their deadline. Is it okay to send a follow up email to check your application status?
Has anyone got an offer for interviews on days you absolutely can't make it? I just got an offer from University of New Mexico for an interview, but the dates they offered I already have interviews scheduled. I just emailed explaining my situation, but not asking for an accommodation (I let them know I didnt want to inconvenience them too much) . My preceptor (who is a UNM residency graduate) said he thinks they will offer another date if they really want you.. so we shall see.
Oh and my stats so far:
12 programs applied to
3 No's
4 interview invites (UCSF, SF General, Scripps Mercy, and University of NM).
awaiting 5
My friend got an invite from Mayo 10 days ago, but I think he submitted his app at least a few days earlyAnyone heard back from Mayo?
