Question, how do you answer the question, in an interview if they asked, "Did you apply to meds?" gracefully if you did apply to meds?

I suppose you can say that meds is a "backup," but that really isn't a good answer. Any other thoughts?

uh, you could be honest!

You can always tell them that going into medicine was not your idea and it is rather something that your parents pressured you into. Your parents wanted to live their life through you and that is why you applied to medicine. However, you really want to go into dentistry because unlike medicine, it will provide you with a balanced and stable life style. Balanced in the sense that you will have opportunities for a life outside of work! I don't know if that helps. :D

sup vixen....i see you here again!

anyhow...i've gotten this question asked in all my interviews....and i've got into all schools i interviewed with. What did I say? Be honest! Tell them what you like about dentistry that you don't like about allopathic medicine. Tell them about the reasons you feel you can excel in dentistry rather than in a MD prog. I wouldn't go into 'my parents made me apply to med school' cuz it might make you look like a spineless wuss <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> Don't be scared when you answer this question...the interviewer will see right thru your intentions that dentistry was your back up.....if dent was your back up that is. Anyhow, good luck

Yeah I agree Steve; telling them "my parents made me do it" would not be a good idea. The correct interviewer response would be, "You would let your parents choose your career for you? Will your parents also be reading you a bedtime story each night you get home from dental school?"

One simply cant get it past interviewers that they arent dedicated to dentistry-so dont try it!

If you want to go med, go med!!!!!!!!!!
