Interview question: "have you taken drugs?"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
whether i was lying or not, i'm confident i would be light enough on my feet to sell the answer.

regardless, i'll likely make it a game time decision based on the tone of the interview.

unless that was their opening volley, in which case it would be one of those little instances that make life interesting.

Interviewers first question: "Now, tell me, Ferneezy, what drugs have you taken?"

I don't condone mistruths, but in this case, I certainly wouldn't expound... I might be vague and say something like "as a young college student, I enjoyed the social life my new environment offered. After seeing firsthand the ramifications, both academically and legally, some students had as a result of these actions, I reassessed some of the choices I had made and carefully chose the social environments I surrounded myself with from that point forward."

I dunno... it's a weird question, I hope I don't get it.
empathy>>>>>sympathy ......yes?

I can't remember if he talked about this question in this one or the second video but this is a proff from a school i know people at he has a really high record of getting kids into med/dent school...mostly because he squeezes the weaklings out of his major haha... or so I heard but everyone that lasts he usually gets them in. Audio is only in the left ear and it's a n hour long so skip along it could also be in part 2 sorry I don't feel like watching again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGHY2oOun34

^ Thanks, that was informative

no prob at all, just something I found while procrastinating. I'm gonna struggle with some of his advice though, looking older for one, maybe if I drop weight I'll look old and haggard enough for school.

Thank you for the link. Needed this.

The 2 parts in part 2 that sort of touch on this topic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGHY2oOun34&feature=player_detailpage#t=2404

I've never really looked at other videos like this, but form what I've skimmed, I think these two videos are absolutely worth the couple of hours it takes to watch them. Very nice find. This is probably going to be buried and not the best place to put this, but just to add to your post, these are both links to the part 1 and part 2 videos and to his free pdf booklet about applying to med school. The interview section covers a lot of good info and is very applicable to your interview experience. It's an easy read.

Yeah I haven't read the pdf's yet since I'm gonna apply next cycle but the videos are really decent and not really that dry. I'm gonna hang onto the links until a better thread pops up maybe you should just make one using this post?

Don't say that...just don't. Not only does it sound really awkward, but it comes across as forced/scripted...which might normally be OK, but do you really want the interviewer thinking to themselves "Hmm, it sounds like this person really spent a lot of time thinking about how to answer drug questions without either lying or really giving an answer. Wonder why they prepared so hard for that question?"

Anyway I posted that video but I wouldn't admit to it if I hadn't been caught. If they asked me if I ever did anything illegal or irresponsible I'd probably say some minor things, gotta keep it real and simple. Might admit to underage drinking my 1st year I'm sure there's photo evidence of that somewhere damn shutter happy people.

I'm often perceived as straightedge and I'm gonna keep it that way better safe than sorry.

I'd probably say something like "Well, I have to admit I did have alcohol in college before I was 21...but that's probably the most illicit thing I've done."

No need to mention that, due to the decriminalization of MJ (which is NOT equivalent to legalization) in that particular state, technically underage alcohol violations are more illicit than cannabis use (felony for providing to a minor, misdemeanor for smoking).

I wish it was as fun here as it is there. The women's interview cloths thread is fun 🙁 I'm so far away though I'm not gonna think of it yet. (I've already backtracked 10 pages)

What if I haven't taken drugs at all so far, but am planning to in the near future?

Would stay away from the hard stuff you can't be a dentist if you're dead but I think it's those with an adventurist's spirit that make breakthroughs in medicine hahah
