When you are asked which school is your first choice, what are you supposed to say (other than being completely honest)?

What do schools expect to hear?

Maybe tell you have no top choice, but are contemplating about a few? (let them know competition)

Honestly, I have no top choice, but have like top 2 or 3 schools I would really love to go, but no preference between them yet.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Tell them that you researched schools as well as you could before applying, and that you've chosen to apply only to the schools that you would be proud to attend. And, further, that you are aware that every school has strengths and weaknesses. Top it off by telling them that you wouldn't be sitting in the room and interviewing with them if their school wasn't one of your top choices. Also add that to be fair, you have to complete your interviews before determine what school (or schools!) is your top choice.
