Do any of you know if there is a point in time when we should have heard about interview decisions? Many of the programs I applied to set late October/early November dates, but I was wondering if most people have heard by now or if its possible that I could still receive more offers. Maybe some of you out there with some experience with process can offer your 2 cents.

Also, I was wondering if any of you had a game plan, or strategy, or advice on preparing for ophthalmology interviews.

You will receive interviews into October, and occasionally early November.

The first batch of invites go out September-Early October for most programs. Depending on how many people agree to interview, the programs may contact more people for interview.

I think most programs try to interview about 10-15 candidates for each position.

In regards to a game plan for interviews, know everything you listed on your interview well. For instance, I listed fly fishing as a hobby, and I received several questions from fly fishing fanatics during my interviews. If it's listed on your application, then you need to know it well. Try to relax and be yourself. Be engaging. Always ask questions at the end of each interview, which demonstrates your interest in the program.

I think the most important thing is try to be yourself, interesting, and well read about current events/medical issues. No one expects you to know ophthalmology, but you should have knowledge about current medical and political issues. I recommend reading the newspaper.

Well, that is a relief. How much should you know going into your PGY-2 year in ophthalmology? It really is intimidating how knowledgeable and confident some of the 1st year residents are.

Well its mid-October and only one interview so far....any words of wisdom on what I should do to strengthen my application for the next round? If I didn't get in the 1st time, is it likely I would have a shot the second time around? Kind of bummed here, any advice would be appreciated.
