Here's my problem. I'm supposed to have an interview at St. Louis University next week. Today, I received an invite from WashU. Is it rude to cancel with SLU in order to schedule both interviews around the same time so I only have to make one trip?

I don't think it would hurt to call and ask to reschedule. Just say something came up and this other time would be better for you. If you can't switch, at least you tried.

See if you can reschedule without saying you are trying to coincide the first interview with another interview. Maybe just indicate that you are going to need to be in the area over that time period. But bear in mind that not all schools will be accomodating to reschedules for a particular week (i.e. they usually are willing to "reschedule", but they will tell you what dates work for THEM, not vice versa), so there's a very good chance you will need to make two trips in any event (in which case it benefits you to do both as early as possible). If you do searches on old threads, you will see lots of emails involving failed attempts at rescheduling (usually involving Cornell and Columbia, or GW and Gtown), where schools were not amenable to picking dates that enabled students to combine interview trips.

I've had to reschedule a few different interviews, and nobody had a problem with it. I would start by just saying you need to reschedule, and if they want to know why, tell them. They know you're applying to different schools and will very likely be understanding (if they have spots available for the week in question).

you can go onto slu's website and reschedule your interview yourself- go to your interview- cancel it and then a calendar will show up and you can reschedule- I did this last week- good luck
