I recently saw on the "NOVA: How to prepare for the medical school interview" video that once you get an interview invite it's a 50% shot at getting an acceptance. That's a HUGE probability factor. My brother in law (M4) also told me this when I got my first interview invite at DMU. Anyone else ever hear of this?

I have the day off and have a lot of time on my hands so I decided to play around by flipping a quarter 8 times for three trials. Since I have 8 interview invites thus far: A=Heads=Acceptance/R=Tails=Reject

Trail 1: RARARRAR
Trial 2: ARRRARAR
Trial 3: RAAAAAAR

Based on these trials is it safe to say I will get an acceptance somewhere? LOL, please don't bash me. I know some of you on here are very critical and tend to dismiss anything humorous. This is just a little game I played while being bored for ****s and giggles. Although it does somewhat decrease my stress a tab bit. I'm so sick of being unsure of my future. MCAT to primary to secondary to interview to acceptance. The anxiety just never ends.

This has ben discussed and it varies from school-to-school. From the posts that current students have put up here about their schools it seems the average acceptance rate for people interviewed is actually above 50%. Nova is like 70%, KCUMB is high too, and CCOM is around 50% (compliments of "Teamzissou", around 800 interviewed, around 400 acceptance offered for last year @ CCOM).

It depends on the school. If you search threads you will find data on a number of schools, but I wouldnt worry about these numbers. Just interview the best you can!!!

Yeah. I think the probability would be around 50%. I don't think schools are that careless that they would have kids fly around the country to go to an interview when in reality they only have like a 20 % chance to get in in the first place. I also dont think they would take the time to interview 5 kids for every individual acceptance they give out.

At some schools the rate is definitely higher than 50%. For instance, I once remember reading that KCUMB's interview/acceptance percentage is something like 89%. They essentially figure out who they're going to accept beforehand and just use the interview as an opportunity to screen out anyone who's really kooky.

I've read a couple of posts that said the same thing from current/former KCUMB students.

Wow, I really hope I get an interview invite from KCUMB then!

I get the sensation that some MD schools do, in fact, have interview/acceptance ratios that low. There seem to be plenty of MD-only applicants who apply for several years in a row, get a number of interviews, and still don't get accepted.

I agree 100%, but the poster was most likely referring only to DO schools, which have much higher rates probably due to better analysis of people's applications. But as far as MD schools, you're probably right.

Where are the stats you all are finding? I can't seem to find any.

Thanks!

Some schools post this information on their website.

Actually, the odds for Nova are around 8/11 for out-of-staters who have been invited to an interview. WesternU accepts close to 13/16 of those granted an interview. In going along with what droogdoc was saying, I don't think they'll invite any old person in for an interview. They are inviting people with a high potential. That being said, I'm going into my Nova interview sufficiently prepared to handle the 'common' questions, paying close attention not to shoot myself in the foot. I think you are your own worst enemy at this point. I found the stats at B&N. Yes, I actually walked into a Bookstore. It was all I could do to keep my mind off of ND's tragic loss to MI last weekend🙁
Anywho, an interview from a DO school is something to be proud of. Congrats

I think that, no matter where you're interviewing, you'll have a much better chance if you're interviewing early in the year. Once you get into the Spring interviews, it seems like the schools get much more "picky" when it comes to filling the last handful of spots in a class. At least that's my impression of things. Friends of mine that had much higher GPA's, much higher MCAT's, and much better EC's than myself who applied later last year got turned down almost everywhere (One managed to get wait listed, but didn't get a spot.)
