I have an interview soon with a pre-med committee member who will be writing a recommendation letter for me

What type of questions were you asked if you have this sort of thing at your college?

Do I need to read up on current events/health care issues? I haven't done that yet, cuz I was going to do it once we get closer to interview months?

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED
THANKS!

I don't think you should worry too much about this interview. The pre-med committee is on your side and they shouldn't be trying to trip you up intentionally. If they do, it's only to help you identify areas where you need to strengthen your interview skills, but they shouldn't hold it against you in regards to your recommendation. When I did my interview, I was told that my stats were good enough (32R, 3.82) so that I would win or lose solely on how I presented myself and my ECs and other activities, so we spent the entire hour just talking about my research, EC's, family, future plans, and stuff like that. Before the interview, I had to write my personal statement for them to review. We went over that, and some areas I could elaborate on more in the statement (I had wrote primarily about my motivation for medicine and my experience in medicine and nothing else about my hobbies and research or anecdotes or anything, one of my interviewers called it a "typical" essay 😉 ) It was pretty easy going, nothing to stress over. Should you be up to date on medical issues - yeah, it's always good to be current. Do you have to study in particular for this interview? Probably not necessary if you don't have the time to do so.

relax. they are on your side. they're not trying to nail you or anything like asking you about the health care system etc. they are just trying to get to know you a little better so they can write the best recommendation. my interviewer was super nice and all you do is just talk about your experiences, what motivated you to become a doctor-real easy going. just be yourself and the interviewer will be able to read that and it will be reflected in the recommendation he writes for you. good luck!

Yeah, they are on your side.

However, my interviewer kept pressing me about the basic reason I wanted to be a doctor, and I tried to explain that to him to no avail. I almost felt like he didnt feel I had a good reason!!!!

Anyways we hashed away at that for about half the interview which was quite stressful, and I hope he got the idea. Sometimes you want something so bad you cant find a single reason for it you know!
