Remember also that in order to keep diversity in the class, UCLA does some sort of loose categorization of people, so you have to wait until someone in the same category as you drops out of the class. Interest also plays a part and lets you move up the waitlist. So the waitlist at UCLA is "unranked" (this is what they mean by unranked). They don't just go down a pre-determined ranking like some other schools. Good luck!

you're absolutely right dr. don!!! I just called myself and they told me that my file hasn't been reviewed yet. therefore it is an unranked waitlist.

But they did say that acceptances, waitlists, holds, and rejections were all sent out. Ahhhhhhh.

OK...I don't think i got the "nice" lady that you all are talking about when I called. She wasn't mean...but very much uninformative. Here's how out conversation went:

CCHiebs: "Hello, I am a WL app..(blah blah) can you tell me if my file is being reviewed...(blah blah)....

Lady: "Hold Please" .......................................................................

Lady: "CC...you are currently on the 1st priority LW"

CCHiebs (thinking): "no ****"

Lady: "What I can tell you is that IF you file HAD been reviewed, and a decision HAD been made, you would know about it."

CCHiebs: "Ok....thanks...bye... (click)

so sad...nothing new for CC. I guess I will just have to wait for that damn "letter sent" date to change....

So UCLA does actually send out rejections then?

try asking them to look up something in your file... like an update letter or something - to see if they received it. if your file is in review, they won't be able to look it up - and they'll tell you.

djwdv....she did actually look at my file, so I guess that means it was not currently under review. But who knows, I could have already been passed over. Whatever, I guess it doesn?t really matter if my file is under review, has been reviewed, or is going to be reviewed....I just want to get in (to UCLA or one of my other WLs). I thought about it last night, and I realized it doesn?t really matter anymore. I have already sent my extra LOR, my letter(s) of intent, my updates, ect...all I can do now is wait, and hope that by some chance I get into medical school this year. Otherwise, I guess I will just continue living my life the way I have been, and apply in 2005....
What can you do? I have the MCAT score, the research, the volunteer work, and the work experience....I guess I just didn't have the spark to compete with this year of mad-good applicants??😕
I mean...you look at mdapplicant, and you see the people that got into UCLA straight off this year, and I'm like, "****..What can you do!" (at least now I can laugh about it...we'll see if I am laughing in August...when I have to go back to making drugs (pharmaceuticals that is😉 )

I don't think it at all means you've been passed over. Could have just meant your "group" within the waitlist wasn't currently being reviewed at that moment.

You're absolutely right. You've done everything you possibly can to get yourself off the waitlist so it's all out of your hands now. At least you have peace of mind knowing you did everything you possibly could to get off the lists. Sounds like you've got several to wait on and that is a feat in itself.

Ignore mdapplicants. It's not at all reflective of those who are going to med school. It's a cool db, but it's only representative of a small portion of those who apply.

Have you thought about reapplying now? Maybe it would make making drugs easier since your mind would still be looking forward to med school stuff...

Well, we're all in this waiting game together! At least we've got company.

so i called today and asked if the class is full or not. the lady said it was full and so i asked her if she knew roughly how many people got pulled off fr the waitlist already. she said she doesn't know exactly but that they pull about 100 from the 200. she asked me if i have another acceptance and when it starts which is roughly the same time ucla starts. she "advised" me to wait up to around early to mid july. i asked her if that means most of the movement will happen this june, she said yes. btw, she was very nice and helpful.

So I called UCLA's admissions office last Friday (June 20th). The lady I spoke to said that the class is currently full, however a few schools have called UCLA's office stating that they are going to make offers to some of the accepted students. I guess a few spots may move here and there before August. Good luck to everyone. I certainly need it coming out of state!

Any news? Strikes me as odd that not one person on this forum that has posted before has not heard anything yet. I called a couple weeks ago. Mean lady has been replaced by a nice one. She said she had really no idea how many letters were sent out .. but then said, "Maybe 75?" I thought it was odd since about 100 were supposedly taken off the 200 list. 75 seemed like a lot at that point, but maybe really very few go in July and August. *Sigh* Still waiting... looking for commiseration!

I called UCLA today, she said there had really been no movement and did not sound too hopeful. LOoks like I'll be paying 80k more at SC.

After 2 loi's, 1 additional letter of rec, and 1 email to the dean... i got the call today and i'm in! The lady at the admissions office said they were still taking people off the list, but that it was slow, and that they would be taking people up until the 2nd day of orientation. Apparently, she said some people drop out after orientation starts and they decide medicine isn't for them!!!! Anyway, good luck to everyone. Persistence pays off!

Man, when I was reading last years WL thread for UCLA, I remember thinking, "I hope my waiting doesn't last so long that they move to the phone call..."
