Would having braces on your teeth be considered unprofessional in a medical school interview? Do you think they may cause any unconscious negative bias against the interviewee?
Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate it.
Well I don't have braces yet that's why I'm asking. I've been having jaw problems and am deciding if it's worth it to spend $$ for Invisalign instead...It's not like you can pop your braces off. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it so don't unnecessarily spend time worrying over it.
To actually answer your question: no, I don't see any reason why it would be looked down upon because having straight teeth is not a bad thing.
Though I'm by no means an interviewer, I would say that even though people might not consciously be biased against it, it could potentially have an impact on the subconscious level depending on the interviewer. At least for me when I see someone with braces they automatically seem younger to me. I would say that it might or might not have an impact, but it's safer to not have them if you haven't gotten them already. However, if you already do have them I don't think it's a huge deal.
I gotcha. If it's really bothering you then I would invest in either braces or invisalign but don't make the decision (which is a difference of a large deal of money, as far as I know) on just whether it'll put you at a subconscious disadvantage for admissions.Well I don't have braces yet that's why I'm asking. That's what I'm worried about I'm a non trad but I look pretty young even if I am older than a trad applicant...
