Would having braces on your teeth be considered unprofessional in a medical school interview? Do you think they may cause any unconscious negative bias against the interviewee?

Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate it.

It's not like you can pop your braces off. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it so don't unnecessarily spend time worrying over it.

To actually answer your question: no, I don't see any reason why it would be looked down upon because having straight teeth is not a bad thing.

Though I'm by no means an interviewer, I would say that even though people might not consciously be biased against it, it could potentially have an impact on the subconscious level depending on the interviewer. At least for me when I see someone with braces they automatically seem younger to me. I would say that it might or might not have an impact, but it's safer to not have them if you haven't gotten them already. However, if you already do have them I don't think it's a huge deal.

Well I don't have braces yet that's why I'm asking. I've been having jaw problems and am deciding if it's worth it to spend $$ for Invisalign instead...

That's what I'm worried about I'm a non trad but I look pretty young even if I am older than a trad applicant...

I gotcha. If it's really bothering you then I would invest in either braces or invisalign but don't make the decision (which is a difference of a large deal of money, as far as I know) on just whether it'll put you at a subconscious disadvantage for admissions.

It's kind of ironic that the post immediately before this one is titled, "What is maturity?" In all seriousness, this is the same as a short person worrying over his or her height. If someone told them that it would negatively impact how interviewers saw them, what are they gonna do about it? Wear 10 inch heels? It's better to not worry about things you can't change and focus on things you can.

lol wut!? How could caring for your own dental health be a negative? Get braces and rock the holiday colors to your interviews.

No. Why would you even think this???? And please do NOT listen to people who don't know what they're talking about either.

Just checking, thanks all for your replies! Guess I'll go for braces now!

Don't sweat it.

Is invisalign that much more? I've had relatives that have used Invisalign and it wasn't more for them, at least not significantly more.

And you can save money, if there is a higher cost, by doing traditional braces on bottom teeth, and invisalign only on top.

Braces are a no. Lol jk. I wore braces throughout my teens and it didn't matter honestly. But I wear invasalign now cause I was dumb and never wore my retainers. Braces work much better!
