Hello, I hust applied through ERAS on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005. How long is a reasonable amount of time before I hear from some programs?

Who in here thinks doing away rotations makes a difference if one wants to match at that specific program? Do they always provide you with a courtesy interview or only interview you if they are interested?

I applied in early September and it took a few weeks to hear anything. So don't start worrying yet. 🙂

By the way, Andy, Dr. Fletcher is here now. His soft tissue unknown conference was hilarious. Quote of the hour being "Alright, everybody who thinks that this may be a lipoblast might as well disembowel themselves right now."
Yeah, he's a blast. I enjoy sitting in on his conferences...you learn a lot and it's like comedy hour too.

Johns Hopkins and BID today both by email.
Yikes! BID is only interviewing in October and November per email. That is some short notice at this point as far as airfare goes. I am more familiar with MGH and BWH as far as path goes; I'll have to find out about BID.

So far... Emory, UAB, UNC, Duke, BWH, BID, JHU, Michigan

Still awaiting UVA and Vandy.

Ditto. It was the only ray of sunshine in a day filled with utter, incomprehensible boredom. You guessed it, I'm on my neurology clerkship 😡 .

By the way I'm thinking it's pointless to post interviews at schools that other peeps have already posted as having received interviews from. So from now on I guess I'm gonna stop posting invites unless it's from a school that hasn't been mentioned. The "interview experiences" should get more play as we actually start interviewing. I've got one under my belt and will post about it when I get a chance...Anyhow congrats to all of ya - lots of great interviews here on sdn.

ChipLeader - I think you are my identical twin or something. We often get the same interviews on the same days, are looking for the same things in schools, and now both are suffering through the incomprehensible boredom of neurology.

Neurology is absolutely hands down the most boring clerkship of all. I was even sort of pumped about it since I just got off psych and really liked that. Being pumped lasted for about one hour. 😴

Colorado, by email today.

I just started an away rotation at a school I really would really like to match at. They offered me an interview at least a few weeks before I got here. I don't think they knew I was coming to do a rotation here (?) b/c today I met the residency director, who didn't seem to know that I should be there yet said that my name was extremely familiar and remembered that I was scheduled for an interview. Lots of residents I met so far said they rotated here as med students. Yet I know of one first year path resident at my home school who really wanted to match here and rotated here as a med student but ended up not matching.

I hope this wasn't too confusing!! I think the bottom line is -- if you look great on paper and interview well and don't have a geographical limitation, then you probably don't need to do an away rotation.

That's very true. Think of it this way, in an interview you have a day to screw up, whilst in a away rotation you have a month to screw up. Although if you are not stellar on paper or make a bad first impression but know that you quickly grow on people, then an away rotation might be good.

I am a believer of this philosophy as well. I've heard too many stories of people who have had away rotations here hurt them.

Wash U and Wisconsin yesterday by email.

Miko2005: I read in another of your messages that you didn't think you were a good candidate and that you were even thinking of applying next year. If you don't mind me asking, why do you not consider yourself a good candidate. Is it your USMLE scores?

I don't remember saying I wasn't a good candidate. I am geographically restricted if I want to stay close to my husband and the programs in the city I need to be in are extremely competitive. I do come from a very good med school, I have good grades, 2 first author papers (and a few non-first author papers) and decent board scores and I am an american graduate. My med school said they would be happy to have me but unfortunately its extremely far from where my husband will be. Why are you asking if you don't mind me asking?

I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I just got the feeling that you felt that you were not a good candidate and I wanted to cheer you up. 🙂

Hey Miko,
I think I'm in pretty much the same situation as you-- husband works in the Bay Area, so feeling a bit of pressure to match in one of two places. Arrgh!

Hi everyone,
Couple of questions. First, for those of you that just received interview invites to UVa today, when did you submit your application? I submitted mine 9/27/5 and haven't heard anything from them. They are one of my top choices and although I have read somewhere on this thread that they are a little bit slow in reviewing applications, I just want to have some idea of where they are at.
Second, for those of you who have applied to MUSC, ie Aubrey, they told me they weren't going to start handing out interviews until November 1st...I guess what I am really asking is directly for Aubrey...did they specifically invite you for an interview already?
I am getting a little anxious because I was having great success with interviews until this week when it has been eerily silent!
dlc 🙁

9/1.

Yes.

I think that including my VISA number in my PS and encouraging the coordinators to go to lunch on me has really helped bring the interview offers in (joking).

I submitted mine on 09/05/05. I bet they just haven't gotten to your application yet (although anytime in Sept is early if you ask me). But what do I know...I'm only an applicant. 🙂

Actually, I see now that MUSC just reviews its applications on only 3 days and that the last day will be November 5th...I think I must have misread the original email which is why I was confused when I saw that Aubrey already had an interview invite! Sorry Aubrey. And thanks drPLUM!

CONGRATULATIONS on all the great interview invites. I'm proud of ya. 😀

Hello everyone! It's been awhile since i've been on SDN and I would like to congratulate everyone with interviews, specially Brian! I was rooting for you!

As for me, I applied to 15 programs on 10/5.
I have interviews at Einstein and Cleveland clinic.
& I am anxiously checking my email every 2 minutes to hear from: NYU, UVa, Mt.Sinai, Cornell, Emory, Columbia, Duke, UPenn,MGH, UMiami, and Mt.Sinai (Miami)

I can't wait to hear from the NYC programs 'cause that's where I really want to be. The waiting is starting to get to me... :scared: Hopefully, I'll hear something soon from NYC.

UVa and Indiana today!

Thanks, Dr. Nick--I really do appreciate it!! 🙂

Don't you worry: you'll be hearing from those NYC programs soon enough (it seems they are taking a bit longer than other programs for some reason). :luck:

I had my Emory interview this week. It was a relaxed interview with six people. The three residents I went out to lunch were friendly and openly answered my questions. Most of their answers echoed what the attendings said. All in all it was a pleasant experience; my only qualm being my usual casual approach to interviews. I don't know if I came off sounding like an ass when I told them I wasn't worried about getting enough specimens at any of the programs I applied to. I wish I was interested in hearing the numbers of a residency program, but I'm not. Meh, the more I think about it, the more it's beginning to bother me. I was genuinely interested in their program, and I hope my tenacity towards my work came through my casual/relaxed approach towards life.

Interviewing @ Emory, UAB, Utah, Cleveland, UPMC, Stanford, UCSF, Cornell, Brighams, UTSW, Cedars-Sinai, and Hopkins.

New Invites. Interviewed.

Ohio St. Unfortunately they only have 5 interview days and I already have interviews on all those days.

strong work!! 'tis my favourite MC Escher..
what you into? dare i ask..what music?
no, lemme guess..nirvana..? 😉

i am half way through my path rotation, and i'm more sure each day that i made the correct decision..the only doubt i had was because we hadn't rotated in path where i went to med school, so i was riding a gut feeling..funny how they turn out correct! 🙂

OHSU today. UVA yesterday, but probably gonna have to decline it. Got an email from UCSD saying that they are reviewing my application and they are hoping to send out invites next week. 😎

Any guy who loves the idea of MC Escher and Holmesian fiction is a natural fit for Pathology....trust me!

Of course you are perfect fit if you like Godel and Bach too, but it is not necessary... 😀
.Nirvana refers to my current work which is my nirvana... 🙂

Sorry for polluting the purpose of the thread....SUNY Buffalo here. I am quite anxious at the turnout of my interviews.....Just 3 so far....Do you guys think i should be calling up the programs?
