Interview from Duke today; thats one I've really been waiting for.

I have not heard from UVA either. I'm really interested in their program. They've downloaded my stuff already. Maybe they aren't reviewing applications yet? Oh well...

Hi prometheo,

Congrats on getting your paperwork in! On ERAS there is a section called ADTS where you can check which documents have been uploaded to ERAS and then which programs have downloaded them. I would recommend applying now because programs will check ERAS repeatedly and download additional letters as they become available.
thank you beary! great help!!

For those of you waiting on programs that have already sent out invites:
At the end of October last year, I emailed U Wash and UNC, because other people had already heard and because there was word that interview spots were filling up and got invites for both.
Additionally, Dr. Treseler at UCSF told me that they couldn't send out invites to all the people who were qualified, so some people don't get rejected but don't get invites either. The idea being that if you're one of those people, you can always email and have a pretty good chance of landing an interview just based on your interest.
Hope this helps someone!
Good luck to all applying this year!

Thanks, this definitely helps. I am waiting on UCSF and apparently they have already sent out invites. I did get one from Stanford and would really love to interview at UCSF as well. I guess I should e-mail to them and the real question is when to do it??

Thanks for the great info sandyworks! 👍

I think that it is lame for programs to do this. I applied to UCSF and haven't heard, but somehow it rubs me wrong to have to tell them I'm interested when I already paid money to apply.

Of course, if I really wanted to be in California I would do this. 😳

thanks, sandyworks!really helpful info there..
does it matter whether i call or email?
calls seem more anxious, but you can know if you are getting the job done,or if they are blowing you off..
emails seem more professional and your name stays in front of them..provided they don't delete you without reading the mail!
doing both seems a bit compulsive..but then, so does this post!!
am loving the rotation!! been 4 days, and they have already shown me surg-path,derm,molecular, and the blood bank!what's more, the residents seem eager to teach when free..Path RULES!! waiting for forensic,though..

USF at Tampa. After a week of suffocating silence, this invitation really saved my mood ;-) Will definitely go there and enjoy the sunshine.

Dartmouth by snail mail

How many programs have you all applied to in total?

I ended up applying to 23. :scared: This is ridiculous and I won't go on that many interviews. I applied to one place I thought was UPenn but wasn't 🙄 , and I also added a few because my folks are probably moving to Ohio and I like to be close to my family. Though the rest of my family will still be in Nebraska so what to do?

Looks like you're in Ohio so maybe we will run into each other.

I just added another yesterday (Iowa) at the behest of one of my attendings, for a grand total of 24 programs. Yes, I have OCD w/ co-morbid paranoia. (just in case you were wondering 🙂 )

Excellent choice. 😉

Me too. I just finished psych and learned all kinds of things about myself that are induced by this whole process. I think GAD is the most prominent, along with some phobias. I get MDD at times too. Hopefully I don't end up with PTSD out of this whole deal.

I applied to 14 and I'll probably interview at 8 or 9. There are 4 schools that currently stand out above the rest (of course, that may change once I actually visit these places).

I think that's a decent number.

Scheduled MGH and BWH on Friday... I'm not sure about interviewing at BID too that week- is it too much to do back-to-back days? I just don't want to be grumpy 😉

Beary, our school is kinda like yours... we are absolutely FORBID to miss any days during our senior ICU or surgery rotations else we fail the rotation- that means no November interviews; kinda makes it tough 👎 Best of luck everyone!!

Has anyone applied to UCLA and not heard from them? On Friday, I was interviewing at a smaller and not as well known program and one of the interviewers mentioned that UCLA is very selective in who they interview and said that I may not be interviewed by them (yes, I was rather annoyed by the comment). 😱 I have gotten interviews from great programs up to now (UChicago, Vandy, Stanford and I did not apply any where on east coast) so I am not sure what to make of that comment. However, the fact remains that I have not heard from UCLA 🙁 Soooo, has anyone heard from them ?

Haven't heard either (about UCLA). I submitted my application in mid-Sept, and the only CA program I've heard from is Stanford. Nothing yet from UCSF, UCD, UCSD, Cedars, and... UCLA. I'd really like an interview from UCSF, but am probably not super attractive to them, since I haven't done any research. Oh well, I'm going to try not to worry about it until November.

I've applied to 8 programs total, 3 interviews thus far, 0 rejections. It's still early.

I can't believe somebody said that to you - what a dumb thing to say! 👎

If it makes you feel any better I still haven't heard from Stanford.

It seems like a lot of this is just a crapshoot. Two different people at my school who saw my application gave me two totally different viewpoints - one said I could go wherever I wanted and the other said my list was too competitive.

U Penn has told me it won't send invitations until after Nov 1st, and I've already filled up most of my interview times, so I'm trying to figure out whether to keep them or not. Does anyone know what days of the week they offered interviews on last year?

Interviews at:
Emory, Hopkins, UT-SW, NW, Duke, UMich, Stanford, Cornell

Iowa. They put you up in a hotel the night b4, take you to dinner and give you a $250 travel stipend. I love them allready!

I applied to 19 programs total. I'll probably do 10 interviews or so. So far, I've only heard from 10 of the 19 programs.

I applied to 14 programs and I'll probably interview at 7 or 8 of them. Like someone said earlier, there are a few (maybe 3-4) that I'm already leaning toward, not having been there yet. Looking back, I should have only applied to places that I was seriously going to interview at if offered. But that was before the reality of traveling, spending $$, and taking time off really set in.

I applied to 21 programs and have heard from 10 of them. The most recent was from UTSW by phone on a Sunday night. 😕 I was watching the Seahawks pummel the Texans at a pizza place when the director called. I find the situation odd.

Interviewing @ Emory, UAB, Utah, Cleveland, UPMC, Stanford, UCSF, Cornell, Brighams & UTSW.

I think I won't decline interviews until I hear back from UW. We'll see. It's costing me a small fortune.

   This is less unusual than you think.

One of our first-year residents has this awesome story about the circumstances surrounding her receipt of the call from our PD.

It was Friday night, she was at a bar with friends, she saw it was a Minneapolis number and since she has friends in the area, she yelled into the phone - "THE BADGERS ARE WINNING!!!!"

I'll leave the part with the PD's response out, for the people who actually interview here 😉

I've thought about whether I should even be the one telling this story, but I'm going to cover my @ss with the fact that both her picture and her affiliation are already on our website!

MGH by email. 👍

Anyone here from Mt. Sinai, U Penn, or Yale yet?

Congrats Aubrey!
I am still waiting to hear from MGH. I hope that (if I'm lucky enough to get an interview) their dates are flexible enough for me to be able to put it next to my Brigham interview, thus saving me a trip and much $$$.
I wish they'd go ahead and let me know.
This interview drama... "you're killin' me Smalls".

So far... Emory, UAB, UNC, Michigan, BWH, Duke.

Minnesota.

Haven't heard from MGH.

So far... Wash U, Iowa, UTSW, Nebraska, Northwestern, UChicago, Michigan, BWH, Cornell, Columbia, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth.

Woohoo!!

When was it? Today?

Anyone here from UW?

Wow! Some great interviews, folks! Keep 'em coming!

Sadly, no new news here. *sigh* The drawbacks of being an "IMG", I'm afraid. Still keeping my fingers crossed!!

Phone.

What, are you trying to figure out who I am or something? Oh wait, you already know who I am. 😉
Nawwww... I was talking with one of the co-chiefs earlier in the year about the style of the new PD and I was wondering if the style of invite would change (see post #430)!

congrats for all the interviews!! good luck!! :luck:
no calls yet.. so what's new!!😴
just finished my first week here..is it usual for the grey haired senior citizens in path to be as excited in unusual cases as young friskers like me?
just wondering, cause it certainly was great to see!

You are not alone!! No calls/emails for me either. In some ways, this is porbably my fault for applying to small number of programs and limiting myself geographically. The silence is suffocating though. I asked my advisor and she thinks I should wait till after Nov 1 to contact the programs I have not heard from. Ughhhhhh.

So far, UTSW, Emory, Hopkins, Stanford, BWH, MGH, BIDMC, Duke. Still waiting for Upenn and other cali programs...

I've got 2 huge interviews later this week :scared: , my first ones and I am NERVOUS! Wish me luck!

I applied to 10 programs, have interviews at 6, and am still waiting to hear from 2 that I am very interested in. Keeping my fingers crossed to hear from those :luck:

I was kinda peeved about it too, but I guess they're afraid too many people will want to interview that aren't serious about the location etc and they will run out of interview slots.
I emailed UNC and UW around this time last year. My pretext both times was that my couples match partner got interviews at his corresponding program and we would be in the area.

For those of you wondering about UVA invites, I think we're reviewing apps, but I don't think we've sent out invites yet. So, nobody stress out.

By the way, Andy, Dr. Fletcher is here now. His soft tissue unknown conference was hilarious. Quote of the hour being "Alright, everybody who thinks that this may be a lipoblast might as well disembowel themselves right now."

Hello, I hust applied through ERAS on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005. How long is a reasonable amount of time before I hear from some programs?
