I did a forum search and found a few things, but I'd like a fresh opinion if you please.

I normally wear a full beard and 'stache. Should I shave it off for an interview? I'm 20 and I look pretty young without the facial hair; I'm guessing that can't be a good thing ... what would be the lesser of the two evils?

I would shave it. But, in your case, it depends if you look better with it or without it.

you dont have to shave it...as long as its trimmed

i suggest you keep it...might give you an edge by making you look more mature. just trim it tho so it looks neat

If you're a chick, definitely shave it.
Smooth operator RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

people aren't made in factories. if you want to keep a beard, clean and trim it. if you'd feel more comfortable getting rid of it, then fine, whatever.

don't listen to the idiots on these boards. the same people who say "you MUST shave it" are the same people who think wearing a green suit to an interview warrants an auto-rejection and 7 years of bad luck. just try to be appropriate, without falling victim to the neurotic, there's-only-one-right-way-to-do-something peeps on here.

If it's your usual look, don't change it just for interviewing. You'll feel awkward and it will come across. However, do trim it neatly. You don't want that "ZZ Top" / "I just spent two months in the desert" look.

BARE that masculinity 🙂

I second Superdevil. Besides, these are the same people who say you MUST wear a black suit to interview in. Anyone who does differently WILL INCUR THE WRATH OF THE BABY JEESUS. And how many of them are/have been members of any admissions commttee??? 🙄

Look professional, be well-groomed, and if you're a good interviewer then there'll be no problem.

Cheers!

*is accepted to medical school and has had a beard for 2+ years.*

I'd shave a pretty design in it, so the interviewer would remember you. 😎

But if'n you do decide to shave, definitely don't do it the morning of.

Dear Monopolova,

Your grades are stellar. Your MCAT couldn't have been better. Your extracurriculars warrant nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Your beard and moustache, however, disqualify you from entrance to our fine institution. How dare you set foot on our campus with strands of protein eminating from your chin and sub-nasal area. For shame.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rod Upthebutt

----- After reading some o' these posts, I shall neatly trim it down and keep it. I mean, it's my comfortable look! Thanks all!! 👍 😀

 At least it was strands of protein emanating from the SUB-nasal region, and not the nasal region. Props to ya on the decision.

i would just shave everything just in case. also hide any tattoos and piercings. the majority of people would probably care less...but there are still some of those very conservative people in medicine. its just better to be safe than sorry.

two words: handlebar mustache! 👍

does the same apply for hair? i usually keep my hair shaved pretty close to the scalp but have been considering growing it out for interviews - i think i'd be just as comfortable either way, but i prefer bald.

should i just try to look conservative?

I say just trim and make it look neat. As long as you don't look like Hobo Dan crawling out of the woods then you should be fine. I agree that people aren't made in factories and might opt for a beard or mustache or some facial hair remnants.

fu manchu...perhaps some elvis mutton chops. Seriously. I think it depends. How long have you had yours? I had had mine for years, to the point of probably being uncomfortable without it, so i left it. I really dont thinkit has much of an impact, provided it does not make you look like the unibomber or Manson
