nothing like doing an away rotation and having the mail all messed up. didn't receive the Utah invite till 2 weeks after they sent it.

I don't understand why any program uses snail mail, esp. for the initial invite. It is nice however to get a snail confirmation of your interview date with some materials. In terms of the invite, I want to know immediately so I can schedule. My neurotic nature has really come out with ERAS and my junk mail checks. I barely even think about my real mailbox though.

BTW, is anyone interviewing at UF on Friday? I am and I was wondering how casual is the 'casual dinner with the residents', since this is my first interview (actually this applied to everyone). Is it slacks and button down shirt casual or jeans casual? Any suggestions?

I interviewd at UF last year and we wnet to the Bone Fish Grill. I wore jeans to only one interview last year and that was Penn State b/c the residents that were taking us out that evening insisted that we could and should wear jeans. They were right. As far as other programs. No need to wear a tie to any, but I probably would wear a pair of pants...

Wake - No jeans. We went to a private dinner club.
UNC - Really nice, upscale italian restaurant.
Hopkins - McCormick (sp) & Schmidts (Sp) Grill, nice steak joint
Yale - You could definately get away with Jeans. We had a university catered dinner at the medical school and then off to the bars (optional, even if you don't drink go b/c the residents let their guard down after a few pops..as we all do)
Vandy - Upscale bistro type restaurant
Wash U - Nice bistro type resaturant
Mayo (jax) - no dinner

I agree. Why have a universally accepted, unified system, when you are going to use whichever notification option that you see fit.

I just received the Duke form letter today, indicating that all applicants will be notified of their status within a month of their Nov. 1st deadline. I submitted my app the third week of September...

Did everyone who applied on or around September 1st get a form letter like this before?

I'm really hoping that my app is still alive at Duke. Any input is appreciated.

Good luck to all!

Keyser

Forgive an ignorant question, but do we, the applicant, pay for ourselves at these dinners? Not that it matters and is cool regardless, but I don't want to make any assumptions. Is it on the department like the hotel is?

So far:
Oklahoma
UT-Houston
UTMB
A&M (may cut this one, applied too "far and wide")
SLU
Wash U SL
UAB
Ochsner (it WAS a weird e-mail)
Vanderbilt
Maryland
UNM (another that may get cut)
UTSA

I'll risk jinxing myself now, I still haven't received any rejects and still have about 10 more to hear from. Definitely applied too "far and wide".

hey ya'll,

thanks for keeping this thread up, it's been really helpful.
much appreciated. thnx!

experience from my interviews so far this yr.....the dept pays for dinner and hotel accomod. so dont sweat it, LOL...live it up (or drink it up :meanie: )

BTW....just a reminder to those that didnt see the other thread...if like me u applied 'far and wide' and think that its UNLIKELY that u will be going on all ur interviews PLEASE mk sure to call programs up early and tell them that u wont be attending, therefore, other applicants can get a chance. 👍

Suprised that you would cut Scott & White over some of the others.

This is certainly not a slight on those who choose to interview/match at either Tulane(?) or Ochsner, but I would be very surprised if those programs dont have to fill through scramble. I withdrew my apps from on 9/1 and think that a lot of others did the same. Would anyone rank a NO program to match, regardless of what they tell you on interview? I dont see how I could.

'New Orleans Proud to call it home' brah

Well theres that, obviously, and I certainly think thats valid. However, with 'home' being less of a factor (as in someone not from NO), I think my point still holds. How can you guarantee that you are going to train in one place, from one set of faculty, with one set of residents, and complete your (hopefully accredited) residency program? All of those are reasonable questions, IMHO.

Anesthesia invites via email/ERAS 10/12. Also oklahoma prelim med today

I also succumbed to the "applying to far and wide" status post panicking over not getting interview invites. The list so far is:

U Maryland
UT San Antonio
UCLA-Harborside
U Rochester
Mayo-Rochester
UCLA
Penn State
U Penn
Dartmouth
Baystate
Maine Medical Center
Emory
Wash U
UVA
VCU
CCF
U Mich
U Utah

There are probably 10 more waiting to hear from..again I applied to too many. Today I'm going to cancel U Rochester, UVA, and CCF

Hope you are right - maybe Ochsner will give me a spot outside the match and I can put all of this uncertainty behind me - or ahead of me I guess in your scenario! Life is uncertain - there are no guarantees. I think you have a valid point in terms of someone moving here for the first time with no connections to the area. I think that most of the people that match into the Tulane and Ochsner anesthesiology programs are from the New Orleans area anyway - either before or for medical school. I don't think that is necessarily true of other programs like IM, for instance. I certainly didn't mean to sound confrontational.

Hey eagle,

Just curious as to why you're cancelling UVa since you're relatively close by. I read from last years posts that they require passage of Step 2 in order to be ranked (don't know if its CK, CS, or both..waiting to hear back).

Thanks! That would be cool if we met up there. I think you'll be fine. I submitted my ERAS on sept 2nd, and I think that's what a lot of folks on this thread did too. But interviews are coming in batches (I wasn't in the first round for Georgetown - folks on here got their invites last week, I believe) so I'm sure yours will be rolling in soon! Keep ya head up!

I had quite a traumatic dream last night. I dreamt about interviewing at NYU and Mt. Sinai and both of them told me to get lost and go forget myself  . I need to get a life.

Case Western Reserve University by email (10/14) - had trouble figuring out where exactly the invite came from. There wasn't any indication on the email except for the name of the residency coordinator.
