Does anyone have an interview scheduled for before November 1?

The letter from Indiana said the AAMC (or someone involved with match process) has asked that invitations not be sent out until after this date. Does anyone know about an official "start date"?

Take care,
Jeff

Don't know about the official start date. I know programs will give interviews during away rotations before Nov 1 in some circumstances. UAB is interviewing all of the UAB students applying for EM on Oct 28th. I imagine this may be happening at other schools as well.

Yale- New Haven a few days ago..

For you guys who have gotten interviews at BIDMC and Brigham -- do you guys have a pretty complete app minus the Dean's letter (just curious -- I don't have any of my LOR, transcript, nor dean's letter (obviously) in yet)? Haven't heard from them yet so just wondering...

Dude,

I have offers from both and my application was complete except for the Dean's Letter. Who knows though, Yale so far has not been interested in me and youre already heading to New Haven. Ive given up trying to figure out whats up, as I have said before, I did not anticipate this stuff, especially this early.

EMA,
I think its been covered already, but the people I got advice from said that Beth Israel is already pretty competitive. Im excited about both the programs, never lived in Boston, I think it would be cool.

hey dude,
I still had one LOR and my dean's letter out when I heard from brigham. I haven't heard from BIDMC yet except for the "we got your application so chill email". What a crazy game!

I haven't heard from either BIDMC or the Brigham - where's the love?! 😉 Of course, that isn't including the "howdy, thanks for applying" letter from BIDMC...

Right now I've only received the "howdy, thanks for applying" letter from BIDMC.

Got Long Island Jewish yesterday.

Guess I spoke too soon, just received Brigham/MGH.

Continued good luck to all! 👍

Yo EMApplicant,
I actually spent a month out there in Fresno. The program is excellent; excellent teaching along with excellent rapport among staff and faculty. Towards the end of the rotation, I was granted an interview. It was very laid back and pleasant.

Take care dude!

Congrats to all! For those discouraged by watching others getting invites... fear not!!! Been said before, but its still somewhat early! The rainstorm comes the first week of November when Dean's Letters go out. Patience young grasshopper 😉

UMD a few days ago and UVA today.

So far:

BIDMC (where, to add to the convo, I rotated at for a month. LOVED it. good people doing smart medicine in a well-designed department... also, i'm pretty sure the program is in it's 5th year.)
BW/MGH
UMD
UVA

Got Orlando the other day,
Today: U of IL at Peoria

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson today.

Just be patient. We received a very large number of applications this year, and many of them are on hold pending release of the Dean's letter.

Good luck!

I finally got my first EM interview: Univ Michigan this AM! 🙂 Seems they downloaded my final LOR just before sending the invite.

How Many LOR does UMICH require? Do any programs require 4 LORs????

Here's my interviews so far:

Orlando
North Shore Univ.
Wayne State Univ./Siani-Grace
Wayne State Univ./DMC
Maryland
Wash U

USMLE Step I = 238
USMLE Step II = 239

Yo UHSDOMBA - thanks for the info! I applied there but haven't yet heard anything. I don't know much about the program but have heard it referred to as an "up and comer". Plus I loooove Cali... 🙂 Would definitely be interested in any other impressions you might care to share! 👍

Three letters - seems to be the standard. I submitted 4 to all of my programs but that's probably just the "OCD" in me...

Is everybody else scheduling their interview dates as they receive offers (this is what i'm doing), or are you guys waiting to schedule until you get a better idea of where your offers are coming from? Just curious...

Schedule as you go.... you can always cancel later

Yeah, that's pretty much how i've been approaching it. Basically, i've been scheduling the programs i'm less interested in earlier and vice versa for the ones i'm more interested in. Other than that, there is no method to the madness. 😉

just stumbled upon this the other day - hey to wakemedheel and waterski, hope you 2 are well...

i've heard from:
temple (less than 48 hrs after submitting eras, weird)
vandy
jacobi
lij
north shore
maryland
and courtesy letters from emory and indy

almost screwed myself over by not replying to maryland quickly - they filled up fast and i was left w/ january. i will be calling earlier from now on!

anyone heard anything from upenn??

Quiet day on the interview front it seems. I wonder if we've reached the point where programs will hold out till the Dean's letters go out?

Nothing from UPenn here - where's the love?

for those of you that applied to prelim/transitional programs for EM 234 programs, did you submit separate LORs--or did you send EM letters? I have EM letters-but they are all SLORs. Are these okay to send prelim/transitional programs?

Thanks!

emapplicant -

with ACEP being last weekend, i'd imagine a lot of a program's energy was going into preparing and such and then covering all the shifts for the people who went. that's my logic anyway.

i called penn almost 2 wks ago and they said that they do offer before MSPE comes out but wouldn't be for at least 1-1.5 wks from then.

Vandy today!
Sweet, but kind of an odd email. It began with something like, "this is a follow up to the earlier email you received.", then went on to say that they wanted to give me an interview and these dates are left. funny thing is this is the first love that I have gotten from vandy in any form. Not sure what to make of this, but certainly not complaining because I am down with interviewing there. Anyone get the same email?

That's pretty funny, but love is LOVE! 😀

Speaking of odd e-mails, Wash U's invite email had no subject header. I almost deleted it as spam! 😱

Have any Cali programs started inviting yet? 😕

I wish I knew what I did to piss Vandy off.

Not to freak anyone out......
This is a follow up to my vandy story from yesterday. I talked to them this morning and our conversation went like this....

me: I was just wondering why the email that you sent me yesterday referred to an earlier email that I never received.

them: obviously because we already sent you an invitation on 10-6 and you never replied.

me: No you didn't.

them: yes we did

me: speechless

them: let me check our records.....oh, we accidently left your email address off the original list. So sorry. Boy you are lucky we sent that follow up email and actually redid the list of senders.

I repeat...What a crazy game!

Jannkins, I sent you a PM.

Think about it - after four years of college and four years of medical school, your fate rests in the hands of an administrative assistant who may have earned a GED. Aren't you glad you paid those MCAT fees, took those long, heart-stabbing exams, ponied the price for the USMLE, and sent your cash to ERAS 😀

Seriously - these things happen and they happen in the real world. I have always been a firm believer in calling programs you want to interview with. It worked well for me...

Just got 2 invites this AM:

Mount Sinai
New York Presbyterian

So far:

Mount Sinai
NY Presby
U Mich
Brigham & Women's
Albert Einstein - Long Island Jewish
Wash U

Hope that helps. Good luck to all!

Crazy is right! :wow:

I'm definitely noticing a trend here. Of the 6 EM interview offers i've received all of them have been 2-4 or 1-4. Anyone else noticing similar?

Hey EMapplicant,
It seems like you have received many offers from school in the NY area. Many of those programs apparently are 4 years. I have received many 3 year program interviews. At the ACEP conference, from what I gather at the EMRA residency fair, many programs are still waiting for that Dean's letter before issuing out interviews. Good luck in everything!

👍

tell them you already made up your mind and to quit sending you spam mail 😀

My Wash U email did have a subject header thank heavens. Absolutely made my day!!! 😛

Just got Yale today, vie email, though nothing came up on the ERAS message center (what's the point of this thing!?)

If anyone's interested, I only sent in my application on 10/7; I only had 2 LOR's (one from my away elective at Christiana, and a "character" letter from my mentor (non EM) here at NYU.

PHEW! I can finally take a nice deep breath! Congrats to those who have gotten interviews and continued good luck to everyone!
Michelle 😀 😀 😀

Just received the Yale invite. A 4-year program! Not that i'm complaining - i hear it's a great program - but where's the 3-year love? 👍

Got Yale today too by email! drgirlnyu, I'm in the same boat, only have 2/3 letters in. Everything else is on ERAS other than the deans letter.

4 interviews so far, 22 more to go...hopefully

My U Mich invite also came direct via email (without appearing on eras). 😕

A student at USF got an invite from Yale today, and that applicant only has one LOR.
