I will be attending interviews at CCOM, NOVA, COMP, and UHSCOM very soon. Those who attended interviews here, how were they? And, can you offer any suggestions?

necee,

I interviewed at CCOM in early December. It was okay. I would check out the interviewfeedback.com site and look up CCOM. I did this before my interview and all of the questions i was asked at my interview had been asked before and were posted on this site. The interview is pretty relaxed, not as relaxed as AZCOM, but it's not bad. The campus is nice and you get a tour of the school, and the admissions person who spoke with us was also very nice. Good Luck.

Necee,

UHSCOM is a very relaxed interview. I didn't even get any ethics questions (surprising) other interviewees in my group did. In any case just relax and stay calm. You'll do fine. I checked that interviewfeedback.com befor the interview. It was mildly helpful. I was hardly surprised by any of the questions during the interview. It was basically your standard questions.

One suggestion. During the tour you'll see an OMT demonstration. They'll ask for a volunteer from the group. I recommend you raise your hand high and get up there. Reason? Well I volunteered and low and behold the Dr. who did the demonstration on me also turned out to be one of my two interviewers later. Coincidence? Ironic? You be the judge. It just made the interview go so much smoother. When I went into the interview and we met again, we both just laughed. By the way your interviewed by two people at once (one faculty, one DO).

Necee,

See a post of mine from 12/28 on this board under "DO interview questions" to paq314. It may be of some help as far as UHSCOM is concerned.

Take Care and Good Luck!

I interviewed at NSUCOM. At the beginning of the interview they asked me to tell them about myself. To me it was a good opportunity to tell them why I chose Medicine, NSUCOM, Osteopathy etc.
You may also get the opportunity to just talk about yourself. Think about your motives and come prepared.
Also, stay calm. They are very friendly and they just want to get to know you.
Good luck!!!!!!

I will be applying to NSUCOM for 2001. I know that out of state students have less chances then instate. I heared that the purpose of the interview is to see who you are not to decide if you will be a doctor or not. The interviewers are not even the ones that decide if you are in. I think the key to an interview is being yourself and showing them that you are commited to the field.

Speaking of NSUCOM, I interviewed there in December. I was accepted recently, and I'm an out of state applicant. I don't think they show that much preference for in state applicants.

congrats on the acceptance to NSU!! i got accepted as well right before christmas. how was your interview at PCOM? have you decided where you would prefer to go to school?

everyone interviewing--a few helpful tips:

1. KNOW YOURSELF INSIDE AND OUT--the better you know yourself, the better prepared you are to answer questions not on the typical list..

2. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO BE A DOC--look deep--don't spew the standard "i really want to help people." while this may be true, it is everyone's goal..

3. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO BE A DO--and don't regurg A.T. Still--everyone reads the same slick book..show how osteopathy suits you as a doc to be..

4. BE DIFFERENT---why should the committee pick you out of the 800 applicants it is interviewing for 150 coveted chairs? what is so unique about you? SELL IT to the admission's committees..med school these days is just as much a business as a training grounds..the admissions interview is pretty much the first in a very long line of interviews for a JOB..why do you want this job and why should they pick you for it..

5. BE A TEAM PLAYER---if you absolutely do not want to go somewhere, don't steal a slot by holding out forever..give up the spot, interview, whatever..

6. BE YOURSELF--in selling yourself, don't try to fit into someone else's shoes..you are who you are, milk that, not someone else's attributes..smile, be enthusiastic, win em over!

hope this helps--you will all do fine!

My interview at PCOM went very well. It is my top choice. I really hope that I'm accepted because I would commit to them immediately. The facilities at PCOM were tremendous. I'm really excited about the prospects of attending PCOM since it also has great clinical opportunities and is very close to home. Have you heard from them yet? Did you send in your deposit to Nova to hold your spot? I'll let you know anything as soon as I hear from PCOM.

Sounds like your PCOM interview went really well. I wish you the best and hope that you are accepted there. I have yet to hear anything from PCOM myself - but I remain hopeful! As for NSU - yes, I sent in my deposit and at this point I will likely go there instead of Arizona, although I am not sure. I look forward to hearing where you finally decide to go!!
