everyone interviewing--a few helpful tips:
1. KNOW YOURSELF INSIDE AND OUT--the better you know yourself, the better prepared you are to answer questions not on the typical list..
2. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO BE A DOC--look deep--don't spew the standard "i really want to help people." while this may be true, it is everyone's goal..
3. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO BE A DO--and don't regurg A.T. Still--everyone reads the same slick book..show how osteopathy suits you as a doc to be..
4. BE DIFFERENT---why should the committee pick you out of the 800 applicants it is interviewing for 150 coveted chairs? what is so unique about you? SELL IT to the admission's committees..med school these days is just as much a business as a training grounds..the admissions interview is pretty much the first in a very long line of interviews for a JOB..why do you want this job and why should they pick you for it..
5. BE A TEAM PLAYER---if you absolutely do not want to go somewhere, don't steal a slot by holding out forever..give up the spot, interview, whatever..
6. BE YOURSELF--in selling yourself, don't try to fit into someone else's shoes..you are who you are, milk that, not someone else's attributes..smile, be enthusiastic, win em over!
hope this helps--you will all do fine!
