I applied to: Antioch NE, Hartford, Rutgers, Yeshiva, Long Island, Florida Tech PsyD programs and Pepperdine(Masters). Has anyone heard from any of these PsyD programs yet? I haven't and because of a horrible incident and which my Psych GREs STILL havent been sent (ETS is a *joke*) I'm scared I wont get in anywhere..

Good Luck to all
Jon

i also applied to antioch and i got the psych gre scores like last week. i can attest that ETS is a bullsh^t organization. I called to ask if it was ok that the scores were late and they said it was fine. I have not heard anything else from them.

Cool well please keep in touch and let me know when you hear from them and I'll do the same! And yes ETS is a joke. I lost my eyesight 2 years ago and am legally blind. They were supposed to send the Disability version of the Psych GRE to my test site and failed to mail it out for over a MONTH (so I took it in December instead of November), so because of that they had me as 'absent' for November and never processed my scores. I called 2-3 times everyday this week, still nothing. But I think they must be so sick of me by now that they are assuring me Wednesday at the VERY latest🙂

John, you may have already done this- but it you didn't, please get into contact with your schools and let them know of your situation. Most schools are VERY understanding. I, too, had a problem with ETS- they failed to send my score reports when I gave them a month of advance notice. They also refused to reprocess them until it was blatantly apparent that they had screwed up. So, I called my schools and let them know of the potential delay and one admissions officer said to me- "ETS is a terrible organization, we are fully aware of it. We just wish students would let us know when things like this happen."

Good luck!

Also send a photocopy of your score report to each school. They can proceed with your application based on that "unofficial" information and add the official report to your file when it shows up.

Did anyone apply to the SDSU/UCSD Joint Clinical Program? Heard anything yet??

I did and I haven't heard anything. I don't think they've started contacting people, however.

Does anyone have a definitive interview date scheduled for Temple? I sent back my date/time preferences some time last week. I haven't heard anything since. Anyone out there get it sorted out?

Thanks!

What's the deal with this program anyway? I didn't apply, but I find it strange that its a joint venture between two schools (especially UCSD, which is an excellent university overall, and SDSU which sucks). Where are most of the resources/faculty/classes done? or are they evenly split as well?

I'll take a shot at answering this, but some of this may not be news to you. It is a joint program between SDSU Department of Psychology and UCSD School of Medicine. The program is primarily housed at SDSU and seems to use more of the infrastructure of SDSU than UCSD. When you apply to the program, you apply to SDSU and then you officially apply to UCSD if you are accepted on SDSU's end. You take classes in the psych dept at SDSU and at the medical school of UCSD. You can also work with faculty from both SDSU and UCSD. Some of the joint faculty members are medical doctors from UCSD. The two schools appear to have a strong collaboration with regards to the clinical psychology program. The program is also a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science.

The majority of the courses are taken at SDSU and students must remain registered at SDSU the entire time they are at the program. Courses such as psychopathology and the neuro courses are taken at UCSD.

Although SDSU may "suck", the joint program is relatively well-ranked according to US News and World Report (which doesn't necessarily say much). When selecting programs, I was not terribly concerned with rankings or the reputation of the school as an undergraduate institution. I focused on the quality of and the fit with the clinical program itself.

If I get rejected from the program, I'm sure I'll still have good things to say about it.

I applied to the joint doctoral program and was told by one of the UCSD professors that they will not contact anyone until the middle of February. So don't worry if you don't hear from them for another two/three weeks.

I applied to Virginia as well. Is this for the Curry clinical program or the arts and sciences? I applied to the Curry clinical program. Congratulations if you received an invite. Thanks for posting.

Arts & Sciences. I havent gotten an invitation for an interview as of yet. My hopes for getting on is pretty low but I did see someone post on another forum that they had it down to 70 and they were calling people to get it down to 35 to invite. Im not sure if he was referring to curry or arts & sciences now as I think. I wasnt aware of the Curry Clinical Program. Either way Good Luck.

Thanks!

I got a email from Dr. Fauber saying that they have not yet finished contacting all the interviewees. They will finish contacting people by Tuesday. Maybe that's why they haven't gotten back to you yet.

OK I spoke to the secretary at Northern Illinois University (NIU)...

No invitations have been sent out for interviews yet. They should be
out around the beginning to mid February.

just heard from temple...i'll be joining you guys in philly!

I was wondering if anyone heard from Vanderbilt, I received an email about talking to a professor on the phone. I'm not sure if it's a real phone interview to narrow it down for in person interviews or just chatting and then an interview invitation (it was the latter case for me when I talked to Arizona).

For those interviewing at Virginia- I don't know much about the 2 programs but UVA is awesome ;-)

Hey Psychmode, no biggie on the name. It's not the easiest thing to spell!!!

Congrats on your interview to USF! I got an interview there, too! What date are you attending?

I applied to North Illionis University. I havent heard anything but Im not sure if my application will even be considered. My GRE scores came in after the deadline. I was thinking about contacting the scretary to find out if its being considered. However, I figure if they are I'll hear something hopefully. I will keep you posted so please do the same.
I don't think late GREs will matter too too much if your application and all other materials are in on time, but then again, you never know how nitpicky a place is going to be. Calling the secretary will probably put your mind at ease, at least...

Best of luck, anyhow. I'll be sure to let you know if I hear anything from NIU. So far, everything's quiet though. (fingers crossed)

Hello!

Sorry for posting so many in a row, but I just wanted to inform that I just received an interview offer from University of South Florida. They contacted me over the weekend and have two potential interview dates: Feb 3 and Feb 17. I hope the information is helpful. Good luck, everyone!

I just found you guys so first I was wondering of the people who got interviews at Temple so far which professors did you want to work with? I'm still hoping to hear from them.

Also I had a professor from UVA arts and sciences call me and what someone posted earlier is accurate, they were going to cut that down to about half and then invite those people for interviews. I haven't heard yet about an interview, but the professor I talked to said we should hear sometime this week.

Did you ever call Umass Boston?

Do you mean Arizona State University? Or University of Arizona...
I spoke to the secretary at ASU today and she said "the admissions committee is now going over the 315 files we received and they will be inviting 30 to 35 people for interviews if you are chosen to come you will be getting an email from me with a letter attached by Feb 10 our interview weekend is Feb. 24 and 27."

Congratulations to you, too! I will be at the Feb 3rd date. I haven't heard from other places though. I had some deadlines on Dec 1st so I'm beginning to wonder about those schools with early deadlines.

Ok thanks for the clarification 🙂.... seems all my schools either just started looking at applications ( the december deadline) or havent even started such as the January deadlines. Well patience lol.

Thanks for posting that, HonieButterfly. It helps to know not all schools have started contacting yet. This application process is a great chance for me to practice cognitive therapy... on myself.

LOL - I'm right there with you on that.

I think someone had asked about University of Miami. They ahve begun to review applications. However, no interview invitations have yet been extended.

Not much on here about PsyD programs... I suppose because those apps were due later than the phDs.

But..
An admissions officer at Xavier told me just now that she'll be sending out email and letter invites starting this Friday.

I find myself neurotically checking this site for any morsel of news that could give me some clue as to where else I may hear from. I check my email with a frequency that borders on absurd. I am always checking to see if I have any voicemail messages and I have started in on my mailbox. Whether it is an invitation to an interview or a rejection notice... I don't care... I just want some news! I don't think it's very healthy... but boy do I get a rush when I hear that some school that I have applied to has started to contact people!

I do the same thing! I used to think I was nuts but since I have been reading these posts I am starting to realize there is a reason we are all applying to this program... But its really good though because at least if we don't hear from a school that hasn't sent out interview invitations we know. That's of course after the feeling of rejection wears off 🙂 I'm glad there are so many people this neurotic. This process is seriously stressful, but good luck, and I hope it pays off for all of us in the end.

OK, I've got a new one for you all: I got an email from a prof at Oregon today. Interviews will be Feb 11th. This news comes after the grad secretary told me a couple of days ago that interview invitations wouldn't be extended until the end of this week. It's probably a variable prof-by-prof type of thing, so don't panic if you've been waiting by the phone.

I have another issue on my mind that maybe someone could help me with. I'm growing increasingly unsure about the criteria I should use to evaluate programs. My present advisor was speaking with a friend of hers that is a prof in a top 5 clinical program about the programs to which I was applying (one of them is the top 5 program, with the advisor's friend as the potential mentor, for obvious reasons). Anyway, the prof was telling my advisor that she didn't really understand why I was applying to most of the other programs that I had chosen, including some of my top choices. Most of these programs are top 25 (according to our trusty US News ranking), and feel like a decent match for me. The point is, it's a little frightening that I could be highly esteeming programs that don't have that great of a reputation in the eyes of a prominent clinical researcher. I suppose these kinds of evaluations are all basically subjective, and I know I'm just supposed to guage my "fit" with the program, but it makes me a bit nervous. Does anyone have a clue about how to get the real, down-and-dirty, of-course-everyone-knows-that kind of rankings of programs?

This is fairly ridiculous question, given that I've been reading this forum long enough to know the prevailing opinions on the issue. But I'm throwing it out there regardless. Advice, fellow applicants? Current clinical students?

Apologies for my long-windedness...

I dunno, in my opinion that sounds like a lot of crap. Most people don't have the opportunity to get admitted to a lot of "prestigious" programs, so its an intelligent choice to apply to a variety of programs in terms of selectivity. And anyway, all the grad students I know tell me that the publications you produce are more important than where you went ultimately.

I think a lot of the anxiety about where to go at this point is unfounded. Unless you have admittance offers in hand, its pointless to sit here and think "which one." Wait 'till March/April, and if you have more than one choice, then deliberate and discuss.

Hi Konrad,

Congrats- sounds like you are in great shape! and with some steller connections to boot! I don't know how far up on the list that professor's friend is in your book- but that sounds like a pretty good bet!

Now, I could tell you what is common knowledge in my subspecialization in clinical psychology in terms of rankings. There are, in fact, a few schools considered "the best" and it has nothing to do with US News. But, it is probable that this information wouldn't generalize to you and your specific interests. So instead, I would advice that the best thing you can do is talk to graduate students, professors, and as many people as possible in order to get a broadband understanding of what are considered "the best" programs for your chosen speciality. It sounds like you have made a good start of this. Get as many opinions as possible. With that said, I think your interviews will be your best opportunity to gauge your options. Good luck!

I just got a interview offer from Northeastern for counseling psychology, i am not sure if i am going to go, mostly likely i will. i am surprised i got the invite considering i applied for their non-existant clinical program lol.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't mean to sound like I'm sitting here with a buch of offers from top programs, tortured by my overwhelming options -- it's just that I'm missing that sure knowledge of which few schools would be "the best" in my area. This is mostly a function of working with a non-clinical advisor in a department that doesn't have a clinical presence, thus providing me no insider info. I think you're right that I'll probably start to get a better understanding after talking to grad students.

I can totally understand that. I felt like that too as an undergraduate. Although I was a psych major, I don't think I ever had a professor who was also a clinical psychologist! And although my school had a clinical program, it was housed in a totally different location than our undergrad psych department. Basically, I felt pretty lost until I interacted with grad students and other mentors post-graduation.

Anyway Konrad, I PMed you just incase your interests lie broadly in the same area as mine. If so, I can atleast fill you in on what others have told me!
